An American magazine came with interesting news The New Yorker, which published an extensive profile of Jony Ivo. The article came up with many details about Apple's court designer and also revealed some previously unpublished information regarding the activities of Ive himself and the company as a whole.

Ive and Ahrendts are working on redesigning Apple Stores

Jony Ive's head of design and head of retail Angela Ahrendts are working together to change the concept of Apple brick-and-mortar stores. The new design of apple stores is to be adapted to the sale of Apple Watch. The newly conceived store premises will be a more natural place for glass showcases filled with gold (the most expensive Apple Watch Edition), but also less friendly to tourists and peeps, who can easily touch most of the current products.

The floors may also see changes. Currently, we do not find any carpets laid on the ground in Apple Stores. However, Jony Ive told reporter Parker z The New Yorker reported that he had heard someone say that he would never buy a watch in a store unless he was standing by a display case placed on a carpet.

The sector of the store where the Watch will be displayed could therefore be a kind of VIP area that will look more luxurious and be appropriately styled, which could be helped by carpets. However, it is not clear what Ive and Ahrendts' idea of the "jewellery" part of Apple Stores is. But it seems that the changes in stores should happen before the arrival of the month of April, when the Apple Watch will be on the shelves of Apple Stores will arrive.

In any case, Jony Ivo's involvement in the process of redesigning Apple Stores shows how strong a position this man has in Apple. Ive saw a major expansion of his competence and influence in 2012, when he was given command of the design of all hardware and software. With the passage of time, you can see how much Tim Cook trusts him, and Ive reaches into those parts where he had no access at all just a few years ago.

Jony Ive is also involved in the new campus

The responsibility of Jony Ivo and his team does not end with software, hardware and the new Apple Stores. Originally an industrial designer, he is also behind the design of the special boards that, in a number exceeding four thousand pieces, will form the building of the new Apple campus, from the floors to the ceilings to the mechanical interstitial spaces.

The special boards will create a four-story building in total, while they will be brought from a special Apple factory, which the company purpose-built near the construction site. Together, the workers then assemble the boards practically like a puzzle. Ive therefore expressed himself in the sense that Apple is building its future rather than building it.

Jony Ive is said to have been closely involved in the entire process of designing the building, even so directly that he himself prescribed a special curve at the junction of the walls and floors. Ive also played a role in the fact that the British architect Sir Norman Foster was chosen as the architect of Apple's campus. This man's company is also involved in the reconstruction of Ivo's house in San Francisco.

Apple's chief designer is also behind the iconic spaceship shape that was given to the new campus. The original design envisaged a building in the shape of a trilobal, i.e. something like a large regular Y. Ivo's team then also intervened in the design of the staircase, the visitor center and the entire signage concept.

The new campus is something that meant a lot to the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs as well, and Ive said of the Apple Campus 2 building under construction: “This is something that Steve was very passionate about. It's so bittersweet because it's obviously about the future, but whenever I come here, it also makes me think of the past—and the sadness. I just wish he could see this.'
