Similar to the past five years, Apple's chief designer Jony Ive contributed to the hall's new auction. Sotheby's a new piece. Despite the fact that the proceeds from the sale will contribute to the (RED) Foundation's fund to support the fight against HIV and AIDS in Africa, this is definitely not a product in the characteristic red color.

The result of the joint work of Jony Ive and his friend designer Marc Newson is a diamond ring. The luxury jewel will go to auction on December 150, and its estimated price is between 250 and XNUMX thousand dollars. When making a ring, more emphasis is placed on eliminating material rather than adding it. The uniform design is reminiscent of the unibody style of some Apple laptops, made from a single piece of material.

Creating a diamond in the shape of a perfect ring is of course not an easy task. The diamond block must be long, complex and precisely adjusted, its inner part is shaped using water and a laser beam. The jewel that will eventually be auctioned will be produced by the Diamond Foundry, and its size will be additionally adjusted to the parameters of the final buyer.

This is not the first time that the design duo Ive & Newson have provided their works to Sotheby's auction house - in the past, for example, it was an aluminum desk, a stunning retro-style Leica camera or a unique red Mac Pro that sold for almost a million dollars. In 2016, Ive and Newson created a Christmas installation in the iconic five-star Claridges Hotel in London's Mayfair.
