A user with the nickname Geohot released a jailbreak for all iPhone and iPod Touch models today. Not only is this jailbreak very simple, but it also works with an iPhone 3GS that had iPhone firmware 3.1 from the start (or if you updated the iPhone OS from iTunes).
The new jailbreak is called blackra1n and you can download it on the site blackra1n.com. For now, it only exists in the Windows version. To start, restart your iPhone and let it sit for about 1 minute. After that, just run the downloaded Blackra1n program, connect the iPhone, press the "Make it Rain" button, and within a minute the jailbreak should be complete. Better turn off iTunes during jailbreak. After running Blackra1n on your iPhone, you can install Cydia and other applications, for example.
However, the results are still not 3%. According to the discussions, it seems that especially for iPhone 1G users, the jailbreak gets stuck with "Running" and does nothing. Therefore, if you want to try jailbreak using BlackraXNUMXn, be sure to make a backup!
Note: I do not recommend this jailbreak method for iPhone 2G users, who would then not have to unlock the iPhone for Czech operators. And iPod Touch 3G users will probably have to run Blackra1n after every reboot.
I ask as a complete beginner. If I perform a JB on the iPhone, can it be returned to its original state? Thanks for the info :)
Thanks for the info, I'll have a look. I have an iPhone 3GS 3.1FW and I'm considering a JB, but I'm just figuring out what it all entails :)
and to the proofs that apple gets via the internet when using a jailbroken iphone with itunes :)
Well, I have an iPhone 3G 3.1 JB, and I want a new one, although I don't have the same problems as other people, but this one fixes some things, so it would work. Well, I'd rather wait for some other Jailbreak, because ke%d also shows things to some people on iP 3G, so I'd rather not speculate. :) And something tells me that there will be another firmware soon... :) Apple will release new and new firmware and the gentlemen will not pursue Jailbreak. :)
well, it's crazy for me on iPhone 3g 3.1.2.. blackra1n always crashes when running.. just put the iphone in dfu mode (turn off) hold home and connect the cable and start blackra1n and it's done :)
iPhone 3GS 3.1 firmware - 100% functional, you don't even have to have 3.1.2, duration up to 1 min =)
I totally miss the reason for the jailbreak when Apple released FW 3.1. I don't understand what else everyone can miss on the iPhone and it's not in 3.1... Teach me :-)
all apps for free + sms deliveries, sms download of 160 characters... and a bunch of other things.
SMS delivery notes or counting down to 160 characters do not seem to me to be a very valid reason to do JB. Those free apps sound nice, but there will probably be a catch, right? Or do you want to tell me that absolutely all applications from creators like EA Sports or Gameloft are free?
yes 98% of all apps from the appStore. But JB also has his day, so you have to think it through.
Well, I'd rather pay the hundred for the work that the developers put into the development of those great games... Possible problems with JB are probably not worth having a few apps for free. By buying the application on iTunes, I assume that I will also have regular updates and support... I probably won't encounter that on Cydia...
Well, I'm not really interested in doing JB on my new iPhone 3GS, but unfortunately I really miss tethering (O2). Especially when it runs without problems on almost everything except the iPhone.
I've already seen it mentioned a few times on the net - the iPhone with JB is said to have a shorter battery life per charge. Is it true? What actually causes it?
+ Five icons in the dock, SBSettings, unlimited ringtone duration, any SMS sound, iBluetooth, …
– the warranty sucks
Jablickar: have you tried all the applications, that you write that a lot of cracked applications more or less do not work? ;-)
(choosing the "best" navigation would be quite expensive without JB :-) )
Petr: If you have a jailbreak and you take it to the service for repair, you may lose the warranty, BUT you don't have to, there have already been cases where guys brought in an iP jailbroken with Cydia, and the iPhone was replaced piece by piece. I jailbroken, before the service I put Restore IBA in iTunes, not through DFU (it's somehow special, supposedly it deletes everything completely) and I didn't get the warranty, I got a new part... that's all...
Jablickar: Beejive is really about the only program that has some kind of protection against warez - which bothers me, one cannot try it and decide independently between IM+ and Beejive - that's why I bought IM+ in the end. Honestly - now I will try to update to 3.1.2 without JB and see how long I can do without it - I need to find out that I don't need it at all. :)
I'd also like to try without JB, but I'd just lose the ability to unlock the iPhone to another network at some point in the future. :)
I used to have JB on my iPhone with 2.2.x firmware and it's a great thing, especially access to the Filesystem allows endless possibilities. Warez apps are nice, but I've only tried Sims 3, Need For Speed, Terminator, a few apps for IM, remote control, etc. they were amazing compared to the free alternatives... After switching to FW 3.x, I don't really want to go to JB anymore. I don't need navigation, I can get decent games even for free, and without SMS countdowns, delivery notes and custom message tones, I'm just surviving...
I don't get it….you keep considering whether JB has a price…it's clear that he does! You can customize the entire appearance of the OS. So far, I have never had an application or game fail…..every time it worked without any problems…And I am not too worried about the warranty, the iPhone is an almost trouble-free phone :-D even if something happens ….oh well, it’s a consumer product :-D otherwise I have a 3GS and I jailbroken it on the fly without any problem and I didn’t notice a shorter battery life……..
who has already jailbroken a 3GS using blackra1n, can you please confirm or deny that it is not possible to get into the system via SSH (eg using WinSCP)?
and just to the question, if JB is yes or no... for example, I'm absolutely not interested in warez applications, I'll buy the interesting ones without a problem, they don't cost so much... but I'm mainly interested in expanding the functionality of the phone, which is unnecessarily cut by Apple... maybe without Backgrounder or I'm having a hard time living with my own sms tones ;-)
It didn't convince me about JB then. I do not see reason. Maybe the tethering could be a strong reason, especially when I have VF and I see how it works quite comfortably. Being without it - not that I would use it to the extreme, but sometimes I would miss it. And not having wifi at home, I would really miss it a lot. Otherwise, the free apps - I hope I'll finally try the navigation, because I don't want to give them so much money in principle. But that's probably all. I have about $50 pre-charged on iTunes, so if I like something, I'll just buy it for those few bucks. I don't have any problem with tones in ringing and SMS, I don't think about the character calculation in SMS with my way of writing, I usually just calmly describe the message even through two displays. Maybe the Backgrounder would be interesting, but my style of using the iP3GS already takes up a lot of battery, so I prefer to save it. I believe that without JB, I have a stable system, stable applications and immediate online support in return, without any consideration of whether it is 100% or not.
That's my point of view. But everyone can find something that suits JB, the one who uses it, nothing against that.
Jablickar: thanks for the info
ad notification: how about icq or skype? plus, I usually have a charger handy when I use these things anyway, so the battery doesn't bother me as much
Jablickar: May I ask you if you know of any program on ICQ in which I can change the port, because at school they block the basic one and if I want to use it I have to change it, I also can't use the iPhone Mail Gmail account, and I can't use it either Book, in Leopard, is still loading and nothing... :)
Hello :) so I tried it and everything works :) I highly recommend it :) there is no problem
Jablickar: I couldn't find the application, it probably doesn't exist anymore.
MIso.RW: I would also like to jailbreak the new firmware, but because I might lose the unlock to another operator in the future, I will try to wait for other versions of the jailbreak. :)
So guys, I lasted less than a day without JB. Several things led me to JB ->
1) Battery % not displayed
2) Impossibility of removing the O2-CZ inscription in the upper left side (I am used to turning it off completely)
3) Inability to hide some applications - e.g. iTunes can be done using restrictions, but it is no longer possible with e.g. Contacts, so Poof came to the fore.
4) No SBSettings, damn I got used to it
5) Impossibility of renaming applications
But there is one downside - what the heck is with the flashlight? :-O
Razr: hey, how did you get rid of the O2 CZ please? I'm already annoyed by the vf cz :-D
update to 3.1.2 on win XP CZ is probably not possible, what? (error 3001)
Or has anyone succeeded? ;)
kaja: I don't know why, but I had no problem with it... WIN XP HE
Hacks: Download Fake Carrier from Cydia, choose Fake Carrier, don't enter anything in the shelf and click "Set". And you're empty.
Could someone help me with my problem?... I can't download the new firmware, it keeps throwing up error 3259...it takes about 13 minutes to download, and when the download is finished, a window pops up saying that the connection has timed out, and this error message sounds while connecting to int is stable over the LAN and I download other applications from Istore without the slightest problem... I always have this problem when a new firmware is released and I try to download it immediately, but when I waited two days it was always fine, but now it's the fifth day and it doesn't work.... I have the original IPh not JB and win xp cz...could anyone advise??? I tried restarting my phone or PC but nothing helps... :(
for Czech XP... if the update to 3.1.2 does not work, it helps to turn off the antivirus... the biggest conflicts arise with nod32... ps, probably nothing new, but if anyone knows...
thanks it helped :)
I looked at both available methods, both use a security hole in the USB implementation. Blackra1n is really pure JB, it only patches what is clearly needed, no joke, in contrast, PwnageTool firmware changes far more files. That's why some applications don't work with blackran1n, for example programs like DiskAid, which need to add a couple of lines to the services.plist file for their function. The question remains, do we always want everyone who connects an iPhone to a computer via USB to have complete access to all their data without a password :-)
Personally, I ended up using blackra1n, because I like it more in principle and I already have baseband 05.11.07, for me experienced or those who have older BBs and also need hacktivation/unlock, Pwnage is the clear choice...
For those that do not work on 3G, try to start the task manager before "make it rain" and kill all iTunes processes.
Otherwise, I confirm that SSH works without problems on a 3GS with blackra1n (it just has to be installed from Cydia's APT repository, of course)
I don't have a problem with battery life, but I know that some people have also complained about this, the reason is apparently JB's implementation of an unclean installation of the new FW. The procedure for eliminating this problem is as follows:
1/ Back up your iPhone using iTunes
2/ Complete restore of the phone to a clean new FW 3.1.2 (if you have a guest redirected to the IP of Saurik's cashing server, you will also get the possibility of a possible downgrade in the future)
3/ JB help blackra1n
4/ Install Cydia from the phone icon
5/ Restore the application and settings from iTunes
6/ Sync with iTunes
Razr: I'm responding a little late, but it's about the percentages for the battery without JB (maybe someone will like to use it) – Settings > General > Usage > Battery Percentage – ON. ;-)
Steve > what you describe works without JB only with 3GS or with 3G on fw. 3.1.x, so those who only have 3G and want tethering (even if it can be solved via PDANet, but that's another chapter) and percentages...
Jablickar > and that's the point, a lot of people wrote on the net that after restoring from the iTunes backup, the battery problem with blackra1n was solved ;)
Hi, I wanted to ask if anyone has already tried it on an iPod Touch 3G and if they had any problems...
listen pls what are the advantages
indicate 3.1.2??
hello, please, I have a problem with jailbreak on version 3.1.2, could someone please give me an icq and help me?:-( please
Hi, I managed to do JB using blackra1n, but for some reason I can't find signal or network after booting the phone.
Does anyone know what it could be?
Unfortunately, the iPhone was backed up in the state it is in now.
Thanks a lot for your help..
Petr
If you don't have a signal after JB, it's probably because your modem needs to be upgraded... so you need to unlock the modem... I'll give you a break here on how to do it: http://www.itouch.estranky.cz/stranka/unlock-modemu-5_11_07
cus, if I jailbreak and then restart, can someone find out that I did it???
when I jailbreak, I download some games there (those that are paid only in advance) and then back them up. Then I restore the whole phone (software) and restore the backup. So what if I jailbreak it??
Hi, I'm a beginner, so sorry for the silly questions
I have an Ipod Touch 1st gen 8Gb FW 3.1.2 jailbroken via Spirit, and I have Cydia installed
when I want to install games from iTunes to the iPod, they install for a while, but then an error message pops up and the installation is interrupted.
Previously, about a week ago, games and applications could be installed from Itunes to the iPod without any problems, but now it is no longer possible, why?
Would it help to restore the Ipod to factory settings and Jailbreak it via the Blackrain?
Díky
I wanted to ask, we just arrived from the US with an iPhone 3GS and the Czech site does not work for us. It is not clear to me whether it is possible to unlock the phone myself or someone has to unlock it for me. I'm asking for advice and instructions. Thank you very much.
Hello, I'm contacting you with a problem, I blocked my iPhone 2G and I don't know what to do with it, I turned on itunes and some kind of warning popped up on me, probably some transition to a better version, just some kind of upgrade, so unfortunately I did it and it says my ip and it I connect to itunes and after connecting it says something that the sim is bad, I understood that it must be unlocked after reading a couple of forums, I downloaded some ziphone and somehow the phone won't find me and then some blackra1 and it doesn't work at all, the joke is that I have emergency calls on the screen or connect to itunes, but sms and calls still work, what about it? Thanks for advice !!
