Last year's iPhones 14 Pro brought a completely new Dynamic Island element and the associated iOS functionality in the form of live activities. So we had to wait a little longer for them before Apple released them to developers. And even now their support is not famous. To some extent, Apple's current "disinterest" is also to blame.

There is no dispute that the iPhone X was the biggest evolution of the iPhone since its first version. It brought a lot of new things, the most important of which was the frameless display and, of course, its cut-out with Face ID. The reduction of the cutout in iPhone 13 was not a big change, but Dynamic Island is already a different story, even considering that Apple grafted a lot of interesting functions based on iOS on it. But even now it still suffers from lack of interest on the part of developers and actually Apple itself. But maybe that will change soon.

Regulations can work

It was on February 15, 2018, five months after the introduction of the iPhone X, that Apple issued a clear directive to iOS app developers. All new apps submitted to the App Store since the beginning of April had to support the iPhone X display. This meant that each title had to adapt not only to the larger display, but also to its cutout. If an app didn't meet that, it simply wouldn't make it to the App Store because the approval process would reject it.

Apple about this developer informed by sending an email. He also mentioned what innovations iOS 11 brings, such as Core ML, SiriKit and ARKit. This regulation was also intended to help the App Store itself so that its content evolves and does not become obsolete. Of course, Apple reacted to this so that iPhone X owners have the best user experience and do not have to use visually truncated applications. The developers accepted it and did not oppose it in any way.

iOS 11 regulations

Dynamic Island is a big change, but maybe not that much. After all, as far as its presence is concerned, it should bother the user less than the cut-out, and above all, the aspect ratio of the displays has not been changed in any way, so that even on the iPhone 14 Pro, applications are not displayed with any black bars. Perhaps this is also why Apple is letting the situation flow and is not pressuring developers to adopt Dynamic Island. Well, at least for now, because he can easily issue a similar message again. However, it is true that many titles, especially games, do not benefit from Dynamic Island.

When Apple introduced Dynamic Island to us, it was a clear WOW effect. It looked simple, effective and great. Now, however, it can still be said that usage has fallen short of expectations. It probably won't even change until Apple introduces other iPhone models that will include it, making it finally worthwhile for developers to integrate it more into their titles.
