Why write about something that doesn't work? Because it needs to be pointed out that it could work, but Apple doesn't want it for some reason. Or he simply cannot, because he himself does not know what he will bring to his subscribers. It's a sad sight for wasted potential.

Apple Arcade now has more than 230 games in its catalog, up from around a hundred in 2019, the year the service launched. Yes, it offers original titles such as Fantasian as well as annual editions such as NBA 2K22 Arcade Edition, but lately the platform has been betting more on old and newly remastered titles from the App Store, which are, however, free of ads and microtransactions. These are, for example, Angry Birds: Reloaded and Alto's Odyssey: The Lost City, etc.

Latest arrivals and expected new ones

If we look at the list of the most recently added titles, there are definitely no gems. On January 14, the story crafting ARPG Crashlands was added, a week before the two card titles Spades: Card Game+ and Hearts: Card Game+ and in December it was Disney Melee Mania, Splitter Critters, Oddmar and Dandara: Trials of Fear (so again mostly just remasters ). If you go even further into history, you'll still find puns, puns, and puns. AAA title nowhere. So much for the past, but what will the future bring?

Nothing. Well, almost nothing. When you scroll all the way down in the Apple Arcade tab, you'll find the Coming Soon section. She currently baits the classics Hidden Folks and Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis. The first mentioned is an old title, but it was very popular for its processing and humor. So here you get his reincarnation. The second title is just an infantile tennis game with characters like SpongeBob, Garfield and others. Internet mentions also the game Proxi, which is behind the creator of The Sims. Instead of a house or a city, you will model the brain here. And that's all friends, you won't know more.

A different and bad strategy

So Apple is baiting you with what you can already find in the Apple Arcade catalog and not highlighting what you should expect to come soon. So he visibly takes his catalog as sufficient and one in which every player should choose. Unfortunately, the titles that would be worth the subscription are few and far between, and you're missing any prospect of it getting any better. Which is the exact opposite of other services and platforms, which, on the contrary, bait you with what you can expect from them in the future.

There is no need to go far, the App Store itself already has a section soon, where there are significantly more titles (currently a total of 8). Google Play, on the other hand, will give you 32 titles coming to the store as part of its pre-registered Games catalog, led by Diablo Immortal. Platforms such as Playstation or Xbox announce their news even years in advance. It's a slightly different situation, of course, because a console with its catalog of games is different than a phone with a prepaid service.

The company's Apple Music is doing really well as it is the second largest music streaming service after Spotify. Although Apple TV+ is not the biggest, this platform cannot be denied in its pursuit of other original content, into which the company is not afraid to pour a lot of money. But Apple Arcade is still a mystery to me. I still don't know who this service is for and I'm still kind of looking for a reason why I should actually subscribe to it.
