For the current iPhone 13 generation, Apple pleased us with a long-awaited change, when the basic storage was increased from 64 GB to 128 GB. Apple growers have been calling for this change for years, and quite rightly so. In recent years, the technologies themselves have moved drastically, while considerable emphasis has been placed on the camera and its capabilities. Although it can now take care of unimaginably high-quality photos or videos, on the other hand, it eats up a lot of the internal storage.

As we mentioned above, the iPhone 13 series finally brought the desired change and the internal storage was basically increased. At the same time, the maximum capacity of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models has increased. While the previous generation from 2020 (iPhone 12 Pro) had 512 GB, it has now been doubled. The customer can thus pay extra for an iPhone with 1TB of internal memory, which will only cost him an additional 15 crowns. But let's go back to the basic storage in the form of 400 GB. Although we have received an increase, is it even enough? Alternatively, how is the competition?

128 GB: Not enough for some, enough for others

Increasing the basic storage was definitely in order and it was a change that can only please. In addition, it will make using the phone much more pleasant for many Apple users, as they would otherwise have to pay extra for a variant with a larger storage. In the worst case, they would find out later, when they would often encounter annoying messages about insufficient storage. So in this regard, Apple has gone in the right direction. But how does the competition actually do it? It bets on roughly the same size, i.e. on the mentioned 128 GB. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22+ phones are a great example.

However, it is necessary to take into account that these two mentioned models are not the best of the whole series and we can compare them more with the ordinary iPhone 13 (mini), which gives us a draw when looking at the storage. Against the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) we rather have to put the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is also available in the base with 128GB storage. People can then pay extra for the version with 256 and 512 GB (for the S22 and S22+ models only for 256 GB). In this respect, Apple is clearly in the lead, as it offers its iPhones with up to 512 GB/1 TB of memory. But you might have thought that Samsung, on the other hand, supports traditional microSD cards, thanks to which the storage can often be expanded by up to 1 TB at drastically lower prices. Unfortunately, support for microSD cards is slowly being phased out, and we won't find them in the current generation of Samsung flagships anyway. At the same time, only Chinese manufacturers are moving the bar. Among them we can include, for example, the flagship from Xiaomi, namely the Xiaomi 12 Pro phone, which already has 256GB of storage as a base.

When will the next change come?

We would probably prefer if the basic storage increased even more. But we probably won't see that in the near future. As we mentioned above, mobile phone manufacturers are currently on the same wave and it will take some time before they decide to move forward. Is an iPhone with basic storage enough for you, or do you need to pay extra for more capacity?
