After half a year of life, he has the ambition to make more and more known about himself. Magazine Touch it is published only for tablets, both Apple and Android, and you won't be able to read its texts anywhere else. He wants to prove that the world does not spin, but moves...

Fresh graphics and "scrolling" inside one page by clicking on the icons fits the intended magazine
for iPad.

I did not set out to write about the background of the periodical's creation, about who is sitting on which chair, whether it is good, or whether it says something. And actually, I won't even go into detail about the generally formulated definitions of the individual sections. That's all Libor Kubín already did it for me at the start of the project at Jablíčkář. I will try to look more into the content of the magazine itself, its definition and, last but not least, the user interface.

Without it sounding self-congratulatory, I have been reading socially targeted periodicals for about fifteen years, as a reader I go through the same development as the editorial staff and the magazines themselves. As part of careful (and long-term) experience, I alternated Week, Reflex and Respect. I tend to try the other players on the market from time to time, but thanks to the information diet that I (un)successfully prescribe myself regularly, I don't need to deal with them anymore. And actually, if I look at Dotyk, at a time when the information diet breaks out for me again - and I therefore limit the sources and types of information, I can't put my hand in the fire for the fact that Dotyk should be the chosen one. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Sometimes the information is hidden and you tap to show it
on the picture.

To choose a category, as the management of Dotyk has chosen, speaks more about intentions to spread well than to be original. Yes, it could have turned out worse and Dotyk would have become a cookbook again, like Kotlík. The degree of my cynicism lies in the feeling that there are enough such oriented magazines in the Czech Republic. Although Dotyku records that Týden plunged into nothingness (this is my subjective impression) about ten years ago, and Reflex has been wallowing in increasingly dark (not healthier) mud for some Friday. After reading a few issues of Dotyk, I appreciate that it's doing well so far, despite the fact that I started the paragraph with a rebuke. Dealing with domestic conditions can either be sharply investigative journalism (and I would beg you, I'm with her!), or just a kind of rumination and reinterpretation of cases described everywhere in newspapers and on the Internet. The touch, for example, in the issue with Zeman on the title somewhat steps into the second mentioned variant, but if I evaluate the magazine from a higher perspective, it still manages to look beyond a larger horizon than the one indicated by our Czech beer belly. It is not an investigative work, but the conservative mainstream may not be a bad assessment for those who are interested.

Each of the numbers has its own main theme, a truly highly social one, which fortunately in the vast majority goes beyond our Czech border. (For example, I liked the insight into the community of Vietnamese - number 14/2013 - which dealt not only with the coexistence of our and Vietnamese culture, but also with the functioning of the foreign culture in its own country.) By having more articles on the topic, it gains in plasticity and depth. I don't want to shout it out, it seems to me that Touch is getting better, but - if I take for example another periodical I read, National Geographic, it deals with the chosen topic with much more expertise without cutting away from the popularity. I'm even toying with the idea of whether it wouldn't be a bigger challenge for Dotyk to have a discussion on a single topic in each issue. Yes, it's a risk, you can't always hit the interest of your readers, but that could make the magazine stand out from the rest - plus, it's published every week, so we have five dozen topics a year, and that's an opportunity to be varied.

Image galleries, by dragging a finger, have become commonplace
you scroll through them.

I am actually touching Touch's archenemy. While the magazine is free, it can recruit readers. They will download it, leaf through it, maybe even a number of them will read the whole thing. However, if the owner were to switch to paid content over time, I am afraid that the current form is not predatory enough to gain more attention. It is too similar to Respekt, and it - no, it is not a paid advertisement - simply has no competition in the Czech Republic.

So if the day comes and Dotyk reorients itself to getting money not from advertising (there is surprisingly little of it in the magazine so far), but from our pockets, it should think about originality.

The other sections that follow the topic fortunately have a certain order and often a series of text is also linked by a specific common topic (for example, in an older issue, they are psychopaths). But there is the disease again, that the weekly cannot afford to pay so much attention to so many topics in each issue. It's sad, for example, at the end of the magazine, when culture is brought up, which is really only a touch here...

And now for processing. Currently, we cannot find many domestic periodicals that would be able to use the possibilities of a tablet. However, digital publishing tool Triobo provides a way to get there. A nice example is, for example, 100+1 foreign attractions or Dotyk. It is Dotyk that makes good use of a one-page article, when clicking on selected places (eg flags on the map) displays a window with information. And just like "Stopplusjednička", Dotyk puts an interactive quiz inside the magazine, moves some objects, works with galleries and from time to time with video.

Perhaps you will also enjoy the interactive quiz.

I like the graphics of the Touch, it is fresh and suitable for reading on a tablet.

The download takes place via Kiosk, it doesn't take too long, maybe just starting and loading some texts could be faster (I work with a third generation iPad).
