Apple is constantly working on its operating systems, improving them through updates. Every year, we can look forward to new versions with a lot of interesting news, as well as minor updates that fix known problems, security bugs, or optimize/bring some of the functions themselves. The whole updating process is quite sophisticated and simple for Apple - as soon as it releases a new version, it is made available to all Apple users almost immediately if they have a supported device. Nevertheless, in this direction, we would find a segment where the updating process lags considerably. What news could Apple please apple lovers?

Update center for accessories

Undoubtedly, Apple cannot be faulted for simplicity in the process of updating operating systems. Unfortunately, this only applies to the main ones, namely iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS and tvOS. Subsequently, however, there are still products for which the situation is significantly worse. We are, of course, talking about updates to AirTags and AirPods. Every time the Cupertino giant releases a firmware update, everything is confusing and the user has virtually no overview of the entire process. For example, there has now been an update to AirTags, which Apple informed via a press release - but did not directly notify the users themselves.

The same is the case with the mentioned wireless Apple AirPods headphones. For those, a firmware update will be released from time to time, but apple users themselves slowly have no way of finding out about it. The fans then inform about these changes, and only on the basis of comparing the firmware markings with the previous version. In theory, the whole problem could be solved elegantly by introducing a certain form of update center for accessories, with the help of which these products could be updated. At the same time, Apple could bring this entire process, about which users have virtually no insight, to the mentioned form, which we know very well from traditional operating systems.

Is such a change necessary?

On the other hand, we have to realize a rather important thing. Updates for AirTags and AirPods cannot be compared to operating systems. While in the second case Apple presents new functions and develops its software in a certain way, in the case of the mentioned products it often just corrects errors or improves functionality without changing the way of use in any way. From this point of view, it is logical that apple users do not even need to know about similar changes in the form of updates. Although the form of the update center could please connoisseurs who would definitely appreciate the influx of additional detailed information, it would become a thorn in the side of the majority of users. People could then skip updates and would not like to waste their time. This whole problem is not entirely clear-cut and there is definitely no right answer. Which side would you rather take?
