The Apple ecosystem offers a relatively well-functioning smart home called HomeKit. It brings together all smart accessories from the home that are compatible with HomeKit and allows the user not only to easily control them, but above all to manage them. All kinds of rules, automation can be set directly through the native application, and in general, it can be ensured that the smart home is really smart and works as independently as possible, which, by the way, is precisely its goal. But why don't we have something similar, for example, in the case of our iPhones?

Integration of HomeKit functions into other Apple products

Undoubtedly, it would be interesting to see if Apple bet on similar functions in its other products. For example, within HomeKit, you can set the given product to turn off or on at a certain time. But haven't you ever thought about the fact that in some situations the exact same function could be applied to iPhones, iPads and Macs? In this case, it would be possible to set the device to turn off/sleep at a given hour every day, for example, with a few taps.

Of course, it is clear that something similar would probably not find much use in practice. When we think about the reason why something similar would actually be useful to us, it is clear that we will not actually find many of them. But a smart home is not only used for setting times for switching on and off. In this case it would really be pointless. However, HomeKit offers several other functions. The key word is, of course, automation, with the help of which we can greatly facilitate our work. And only if automation came to Apple devices, only then would something similar make sense.

Automation

The arrival of automation in iOS/iPadOS, for example, could also be linked by Apple to HomeKit itself. It is in this direction that one could find a number of potential uses. A great example would be waking up in the morning, when, for example, a few minutes before waking up, HomeKit would raise the temperature in the house and turn on the smart lighting together with the sound of the alarm clock. Of course, this can be set already, but it is necessary to rely on a fixed time. However, as we have already stated, there could be several such options, and practically the choice would again be in the hands of the apple grower as to how to deal with the available options.

Apple is already addressing a similar concept through the native Shortcuts application, which significantly simplifies the creation of various automations, where the user simply assembles the relevant blocks and thus creates a sort of sequence of tasks. In addition, shortcuts have finally arrived on Apple computers as part of macOS 12 Monterey. In any case, Macs have had the Automator tool for a long time, with the help of which you can also create automations. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked because it seems complicated at first glance.
