The introduction of the redesigned MacBook Pro is already slowly knocking on the door. This is also confirmed by reports from various portals, according to which we will see this new product in two sizes – with a 14″ and a 16″ screen – later this year. This year's model should bring a number of interesting changes, led by a new design. The appearance of the MacBook Pro has been practically unchanged since 2016. Back then, Apple managed to significantly slim down the body of the device by removing all ports, replacing them with USB-C with Thunderbolt 3. However, this year we are expecting a change and the reintroduction of some ports. What and what benefits will they bring? We will look at that together now.

HDMI

There have been rumors on the Internet about the return of HDMI for quite some time now. This port was last used by the MacBook Pro 2015, which offered a considerable amount of comfort thanks to it. Although today's Macs offer a USB-C connector, which is also used for image transmission, most monitors and televisions still rely on HDMI. The re-introduction of the HDM connector could thus bring a certain amount of comfort to a relatively large group of users.

Personally, I use a standard monitor with my Mac, which I connect via HDMI. For this reason, I am so dependent on a USB-C hub, without which I am practically dead. In addition, I have already encountered a situation several times when I forgot to bring the aforementioned hub to the office, which is why I had to work only with the screen of the laptop itself. From this point of view, I would definitely welcome the return of HDMI. In addition, I firmly believe that many other people, including other members of our editorial staff, perceive this step in the same way.

SD card reader

In connection with the return of some ports, the return of the classic SD card reader is undoubtedly the most talked about. Nowadays, it is again necessary to replace it via USB-C hubs and adapters, which is simply an unnecessary extra worry. Photographers and video makers, who practically can't do without similar accessories, know about it.

MagSafe

The last port that should see its "revival" is everyone's beloved MagSafe. It was MagSafe 2 that was one of the most popular connectors for Apple users, thanks to which charging was much more comfortable. While now we need to connect a classic USB-C cable to the port in the MacBook, in the past it was enough to bring the MagSafe cable a little closer and the connector was already attached by means of magnets. This was an extremely simple and safe method. For example, in the event that you trip over the power cable, you theoretically do not have to worry about damage. In short, the magnets simply "click" and the device is not damaged in any way.

However, it is currently unclear whether MagSafe will return in the same form, or whether Apple will not rework this standard into a more friendly form. The truth remains that the connector at the time was a bit wider compared to the current USB-C, which does not exactly play into the cards of the apple company. Personally, however, I would welcome the return of this technology even in its earlier form.

Chances of these connectors returning

Finally, there is the question of whether the earlier reports can actually be trusted and whether there is a chance of reintroducing the mentioned connectors. Currently, their return is being talked about as a done deal, which of course has its justification. The arrival of the HDMI port, SD card reader and MagSafe had already been predicted by, for example, leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo or Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman. In addition, in April of this year, the REvil hacking group obtained schematics from the company Quanta, which, by the way, is an Apple supplier. From these diagrams, it was evident that both expected models of the redesigned MacBook Pro will bring the connectors mentioned above.

What else will MacBook Pro bring and when will we see it?

In addition to the aforementioned connectors and new design, the revised MacBook Pro should also offer significant performance improvements. The most talked about is the new Apple Silicon chip with the designation M1X, which will bring a significantly more powerful graphics processor. The information available so far speaks of the use of a 10-core CPU (with 8 powerful and 2 economical cores) in combination with a 16 or 32-core GPU. As for the operating memory, according to the original forecasts it should reach up to 64 GB, but later various sources began to mention that its maximum size will reach "only" 32 GB.

As for the date of the performance, of course it remains largely unknown. However, as I mentioned above, we should (fortunately) not have to wait long for the expected news. Verified sources most often talk about the next Apple Event, which could take place as early as October 2021. But at the same time, there is also information about a possible postponement to November.
