This April, Apple introduced the 24″ iMac with the M1 chip, which replaced the earlier 21,5″ version with an Intel processor. Thanks to the transition to Apple's own Silicon platform, he was able to noticeably strengthen the overall performance of the device, while at the same time boasting a noticeable change in design, more vivid colors, the new Magic Keyboard. In any case, the question remains how the successor of the current 27″ model is doing. It has not been updated for a long time and there are a lot of questions about the iMac product line in general.
Pro successor
A few months ago, there was speculation about the development of a 30″ iMac that would replace the current 27″ version. But the popular analyst and editor of Bloomberg, Mark Gurman, specified in April that Apple has suspended the development of this device. At the same time, Apple already stopped selling the iMac Pro in 2017, which was, among other things, the only Apple computer of its kind that was available in space gray. Because of these moves, the apple community became uncertain.
But the answer to this whole problem may not be as far as it seems at first glance. As the iDropNews portal also informs, Apple could theoretically come up with a successful successor called the iMac Pro, which could offer a 30″ screen and an M1X chip. Apparently, it is this one that is now heading to the expected MacBook Pros, while it should offer unprecedentedly high performance. At the moment, even a larger all-in-one computer from Apple would need something similar. This is precisely where the 24″ iMac with M1 lacks. Although the M1 chip offers sufficient performance, it must be taken into account that it is still an input device intended for normal work, not for anything more demanding.
Design
In terms of design, such an iMac Pro could be based on the already mentioned 24″ iMac, but in slightly larger dimensions. So if we really get to see the introduction of such an apple computer, we can easily count on the use of a neutral color. Since the device will be aimed at professionals, the current colors we know from the 24″ iMac would not make sense. At the same time, Apple fans are asking whether this iMac will also have the familiar chin. Apparently, we should rather count on it, since this is where all the necessary components are stored, possibly even the M1X chip.
Pure thought: I was more comfortable talking about the 32-inch version, which would compare the size and design with the ProDisplay monitors. Anyway, the iMac didn't carry the 'PRO' tag at the time because of the XeonW chipset and special ECC reg RAM. Because at that time there was no modern alternative to MAC PRO. In any case, upgrading the chip to some successor (M2, or the M1X) is probably not the goal for the 'PRO' ... max only for the iMac. Another fact is the graphics. It seems that it is enough, but not for PRO things. (more complex animations, advanced production, rendering, etc..) Since the support for the external graphics interface (eGPU) has dropped, it will probably be miserable. And that's not to mention the fact that I'll try to cram everything into the 'ipad' slim body. Simply, the micro motherboard in the chin of the iMac will not bring many miracles. Not nowadays. There is simply no technological ceiling today, and the most powerful RTX from Nvidia isn't as big as a whole MAC mini (or 2 times bigger than the chin of an iMac). Well, we'll see if Appe will bring some kind of technological miracle, I guess they have the potential for that. :)
Unfortunately, I work on an iMac with Intel and it is a tragedy in terms of performance. I would never want it even for free. We have a PC for video rendering. I don't understand why the outrageous prices are paid when it always had a poor performance.v
