On Wednesday, Samsung will present its new foldable devices, where the Galaxy Fold model in particular can be considered a certain hybrid between a phone and a tablet. But according to available leaks and patent applications and reports from analysts, Apple is also working on certain hybrids. It is not always just a certain variant of the phone with a large display.

Flexible displays

But Apple is certainly working on it too. There has been talk for a long time that it is not a question of if, but rather when the company will actually show us its solution. After all, the internet is full of concepts. It was originally said that we would see it as early as 2023, but now analysts agree on 2025. So it would be a certain combination of iPhone and iPad. But it is interesting to think about the operating system used. iOS would be more useful when closed, and iPadOS when open when using a large display. But we will probably see some new designation depending on what the device will be called. If we were inspired by Samsung's label, it would certainly be FoldOS.

In addition, Ross Young mentioned that Apple is allegedly flirting with the possibility of introducing a flexible MacBook, which would have a display instead of its keyboard. We could wait until 2027. In this case, it would be a clear combination of iPad and MacBook. Of course, there should be support for Apple Pencil as well. In the case of an open device, it should be a relatively large 20" display diagonal, which would fit the largest iPad Pro in your pocket. Unfortunately, such a device would be extremely expensive given the technology used. A more interesting variant could be the one in the form of a concept similar to the Microsoft Surface, where both displays would be separated. In that case, even just one could be touchable.

Modular device

Global brands such as Motorola and others have already tried to achieve a certain modularity in their devices, but they turned out to be kittens that were not well received by the market. But Apple is known for making something meaningful. He could thus come up with his modular device, which would combine many of his products, especially the MacBook with the iPad. However, this would not be the device described in the previous point.

PatentlyApple

Here you would have a display that you would connect another part to. This could be the same size display again, or just half the size. You could also connect a keyboard - full-sized or reduced. Likewise, for example, a trackpad, etc. So you could define such a device entirely according to your needs and requirements. It sounds like science fiction, and maybe it is science fiction, but we don't know the future of technology, and it's not entirely impossible that we'll actually be using such devices in a few years.

HomePod and Apple TV

HomePod has great potential, but Apple is letting it sit idle for now. It doesn't matter if we're talking about the speaker as such or the brand. However, this smart speaker is not exactly among the bestsellers, which also applies to the Apple TV. Last year, Bloomberg suggested that Apple might merge these two products into one, and the idea is really appealing.

Mark Gurman stated that this combination would also include a camera for video calling, which regular televisions (or Apple TV) are not equipped with. With the exception of all Apple TV functions, except for quality sound and the ability to play music and control a smart home, this smart box could handle FaceTime calls as well. In that case, of course, it would be necessary to have the TV on, which would not be the case when listening to music.

Such a HomeAppleTV could also function as a home theater, as it could allow multiple HomePods to be connected in the room. The fact that Apple has merged both development teams, i.e. the one dealing with Apple TV and the one taking care of the HomePod portfolio of smart speakers, also proves that this information is not being leaked.

HomePod and iPad

Nest Hub is a Google device that contains a simple display with a few functions and a smart speaker, the price of which on the Czech market is under two thousand CZK. It wouldn't be out of place if Apple introduced a similar device. It would be a hybrid speaker and tablet through which you would control playback, your smart home, but also some basic things, where iMessage, FaceTime calls and certain iCloud functions would be directly offered. It would also serve as a display of images from smart cameras so that you don't have to turn on the TV for it.

According to the latest information, maybe Apple is really working on something similar, but not exactly in this form. Now there has already been information that the company should redesign the Smart Connector on its iPads, which should have four pins instead of three and should be on two sides of the device. In particular, this would allow for greater data flow. In the end, you would have two devices – an iPad and a HomePod, when you would connect the iPad to the HomePod via these connectors. Both devices could function completely independently, and when connected to each other, provide many more possibilities resulting from their interconnection.
