About two weeks ago, Apple released new versions of its operating systems. Specifically, we are talking about iOS and iPadOS 15.4, macOS 12.3 Monterey, watchOS 8.5 and tvOS 15.4. We have already taken a look at all the news from these systems together, and now we are devoting ourselves to the procedures for improving the performance and increasing the endurance of the device after the update. In most cases, the update will go smoothly, but occasionally you may encounter users who experience lower performance or shorter battery life. In this article, we will specifically look at how to increase Apple Watch battery life after installing watchOS 8.5.

Turn off heart rate monitoring

Apple Watch is primarily designed to track and record your activity and health. As far as health monitoring is concerned, the apple watch will warn you, for example, of a too low or high heart rate, which may indicate heart problems. However, the background heart rate measurement uses hardware, of course, and this causes a reduction in battery life. If you are convinced that his heart is fine, or if you do not need to measure heart activity, you can deactivate it. Enough for iPhone open the application Watch, go to category My watch and open the section here Privacy. Then that's it disable Heart rate.

Deactivate wake-up by raising your wrist

There are different ways to light up the Apple Watch display. You can either touch it with your finger or turn it with the digital crown. Most often, however, we light up the Apple Watch display by holding it up to our face, when it automatically lights up. However, this function may not always work perfectly, which means that the display may light up even at an unwanted moment. Since the Apple Watch display consumes the most energy in the battery, turning on by itself is of course a problem. Therefore, if you have a problem with the low battery life of your Apple Watch, deactivate the automatic display lighting when you raise your wrist. Just go to iPhone to the application Watch, where you open the category My watch. Go to here Display and brightness and using the switch turn off Raise your wrist to wake.

Turn off effects and animations

Apple's operating systems simply look great. In addition to the design as such, the system looks good, among other things, thanks to the effects and animations, which you can also notice in several places within watchOS. However, in order to render an effect or animation, it is necessary to provide hardware resources, which means faster battery discharge. The good news is that you can easily disable both effects and animations on your Apple Watch. You just need to switch to them Settings → Accessibility → Restrict movement, where using a switch activate Limit movement. After activation, in addition to increased battery life, you can also notice a significant acceleration.

Activate Optimized Charging

Batteries found inside (not only) Apple portable devices are considered consumer goods. This means that over time and use, it loses its properties - specifically, above all, the maximum capacity and the necessary power that the battery must deliver to the hardware for proper functionality. Batteries generally prefer to be between 20 and 80% charge. Even outside this range, of course, the battery will work, but if you move outside it for a long time, you risk faster aging of the battery, which is unwanted. You can fight against battery aging and charging above 80% using the Optimized charging function, which can stop charging at 80% in certain situations. You can activate it on Apple Watch v Settings → Battery → Battery health, where you just need to go below and turn on Optimized charging.

Use power saving mode when exercising

As already mentioned on one of the previous pages, the Apple Watch is mainly used to monitor activity and health. During any exercise, the apple watch can track your heart rate in the background, which is one of the basic data you should keep an eye on. But the problem is that the constant measurement of heart rate has a negative effect on battery life. Apple also thought of this and added a function that allows you to activate the power saving mode during exercise. It works in such a way that it does not simply measure the activity of the heart during walking and running. To activate the energy-saving mode during exercise, it is enough to iPhone go to the application Watch, where in the category My watch open the section Exercises, and then activate Power Saving Mode.
