If you are interested in what is happening in the world of Apple, or if you are among the loyal readers of our magazine, then you certainly know that a few days ago we saw the release of new versions of operating systems for the public. While Apple is working on catching up with iOS 16 and other new systems, it released updates in the form of iOS and iPadOS 15.6, macOS 12.5 Monterey and watchOS 8.7. However, as it usually happens after the release, there will be a handful of users who may have a problem with reduced battery life, or may experience a decrease in performance. So let's look at 5 tips to speed up Apple Watch with watchOS 8.7 in this article.

Shutting down applications

On the iPhone, you can simply turn off applications via the application switcher - but this action does not make much sense here. However, applications can still be closed on the Apple Watch, where it definitely makes sense from the point of view of system acceleration, especially with older generations of watches. If you would like to close an application on your Apple Watch, first move to it, for example through the Dock. Then hold the side button (not the digital crown) until it appears display with sliders. Then it's enough hold the digital crown, as long as the screen with the sliders disappear. This is how you freed the operating memory of the apple watch.

Delete the apps

In addition to knowing how to turn off apps, you should also remove the ones you don't use. By default, the Apple Watch is set to automatically install any apps you install on your iPhone—if a watchOS version is available, of course. But the truth is that most users are not comfortable with this, as they often never start such applications and only take up storage space, which causes the system to slow down. To turn off the automatic installation of applications, just click iPhone in the application Watch go to section my watch where you click the section In general a turn off Automatic installation of applications. To remove already installed applications, then in the section My watch get off all the way down click on a specific application, and then either by type deactivate switch View on Apple Watch, or tap on Delete an app on Apple Watch.

Animations and effects

If you think about using (not only) Apple Watch, i.e. watchOS, you can notice all kinds of animations and effects that make the system more beautiful. In order to render these animations and effects, of course, a certain amount of computing power is needed, which is definitely not available, especially with the older Apple Watch. The good news is that animations and effects can be disabled in watchOS, freeing up power for other operations and making the watch significantly faster. To disable animations and effects, go to Settings → Accessibility → Restrict movement, where using a switch activate possibility Limit movement.

Background updates

Some apps may download data in the background. We can see this, for example, with social network applications or weather applications. Every time you go to such applications, you have the latest data available immediately and without waiting, i.e. in our case, content on the wall and forecasts, which is possible thanks to background updates. But of course, this function consumes power due to the background activity, which leads to the slowdown of the Apple Watch. So if you don't mind waiting a few seconds for new content to load, you can turn off background updates. Just go to Settings → General → Background Updates, where you can do either complete deactivation or partial deactivation for individual applications below.

Factory settings

In the event that none of the previous tips helped you significantly, here is one more tip, which, however, is relatively drastic. This is, of course, data deletion and factory reset. But the truth is that on the Apple Watch, compared to, for example, the iPhone, this is not such a big problem. Most of the data is mirrored to the Apple Watch from the iPhone, so you will have it available again after the reset. You can reset the Apple Watch in Settings → General → Reset. Here press the option Delete data and settings, subsequently se authorize using a code lock and follow the next instructions.
