Many of our readers are struggling to get their Huawei 3G modem working under OS X 10.7.1. The modem is quite widespread, as it is distributed on the web alza.cz and O2 k offers it to some laptops with internet for half a year for free. So how to get the modem up and running?
Here download the Stay Connected app
Start the installation; it probably won't continue, but that's okay.
1. Open Network Preferences
2. Click + for the New Service menu
3. Select the Default configuration
4. Enter *99# in the phone number field
5. Check Show Modem Status in menu Bar if you want to have an icon in the top bar where you can connect/disconnect
6. Click Advanced…
7. Select Other from the Vendor menu
8. Select HUAWEI Mobile Connect in the Model menu
9. Click OK, then Apply, then Connect
We thank our loyal reader Jakub Krč for the tip.
Couldn't it be in Czech? :))
1. Open Network Preferences
2. Click on the plus, you will get to the New Service menu
3. Select the Default configuration
4. Enter *99# in the phone number field
5. Check Show Modem Status in menu Bar (if you want to have an icon in the status menu)
6. Click Advanced…
7. Select Other from the Vendor menu
8. Select HUAWEI Mobile Connect in the Model menu
9. Click OK, then Apply, then Connect
Thank you, we have already fixed the English.
An alternative to this procedure is to use the Mobile Partner program. This is a connection manager directly from Huawei.
It supports all Huawei sticks that Czech operators sell/sold (E220/E160/E1750/E173) and can be downloaded with Czech instructions directly on the O2 website.
