The update to iOS 4.2 brought, among other things, a new function: wireless printing, the so-called "AirPrint". Unfortunately, it supports only a few models from HP. So if you are not one of the lucky owners of a supported printer, we have instructions for you on how to print via AirPrint on any printer connected to your computer.

Mac

Mac OS X 10.6.5 and higher must be installed for operation

  1. Download this file archive: Download
  2. Now you need to copy these files to the folder usr, which is normally hidden. You can make it visible with a command via Terminal. So open Terminal.app and type the command: open -a Finder /usr/
  3. Copy the files from the archive to the corresponding directories:
    /usr/libexec/cups/filter/urftopdf
    /usr/share/cups/mime/apple.convs
    /usr/share/cups/mime/apple.types
  4. Z Printing Preferences remove the printers you want to use.
  5. Restart.
  6. Add your printer back and activate printer sharing.
  7. You should now be printing via AirPrint.

Windows

For Windows users, the procedure is a little easier. It needs to be installed iTunes 10.1 and enabled administrator rights. At the same time, the printer for which you want to use AirPrint must be shared.

  1. Download the AirPrint for Windows installer here: Download
  2. Right-click the downloaded installer and select “Run as administrator”
  3. A simple installation will start. Follow the instructions of the installer.
  4. When the Windows Firewall warning window appears after installation, press the “Allow access” button
  5. Your printer should now be ready for AirPrint.
