It's been a year or so since Apple faced (and even continues to face) various complaints and lawsuits related to the alleged slowdown of Apple phones. According to some claims, Apple knowingly and deliberately slowed down its older devices in order to force its consumers to buy a new model. It turns out that the slowdown was indeed happening on older devices, but due to old batteries. All batteries lose their properties over time and do not last as long as when they were new. That's why batteries are labeled as consumables that must be replaced even in Apple mobile devices.

Whether you believe the above justification for slowing down the device is up to you. It probably doesn't need to be reminded that Apple tries to make money wherever possible, but on the other hand, it gives a certain logic. In order for the Californian giant to respond to the situation described above, some time later it added a function called Battery Health to iOS. Within this settings section, you can see the state of your battery, as well as its maximum capacity. Over time, Apple added this feature to the Apple Watch and MacBooks. Let's take a look together in this article at a summary of how you can view Battery Health on individual devices.

iPhone battery health

Apple was the first to add Battery Health to an Apple phone. To view the battery status on your iPhone, proceed as follows:

  • First, open the native app on your iPhone Settings.
  • Once you've done that, scroll down a bit and click the tab Battery.
  • On the next screen that appears, tap the box Battery health.
  • Pay attention here percentage data inline Maximum capacity.
  • In addition, you can also (de)activate Optimized charging here.

Battery health on Apple Watch

With the arrival of the latest operating system for the Apple Watch, i.e. watchOS 7, Apple added the option to display Battery Health in the Apple Watch as well. To view Battery Health on Apple Watch, follow these steps:

  • First, on your Apple Watch, press digital crown (not the side button).
  • After pressing, you will find yourself on the applications screen, where you will open the one with the name Settings.
  • Once you have done so, scroll down a bit to locate and click on the box Battery.
  • Within this section, scroll down again and click on the box Battery health.
  • Here it is sufficient to pay attention to the percentage data u Maximum capacity.
  • Below you can also (de)activate Optimized charging.

MacBook battery health

With the arrival of macOS 11 Big Sur, it looked like we would finally see a legitimate Battery Health feature on our MacBooks. In the beta versions, we were able to display the percentage of the maximum capacity, just like with the iPhone and Apple Watch. However, with the public release, Apple removed this feature and instead of the maximum capacity, only the verbal state of the battery is displayed. To view the battery status, proceed as follows:

  • On your MacBook, at the top left, tap icon .
  • This will bring up a drop-down menu, in which click on System Preferences…
  • Once you have done so, in the new window that appears, click on the box Battery.
  • Here, in the left menu, click on the tab with the name Battery.
  • Now click on the button in the lower right corner of the window Battery health…
  • A new window will open in which you can now monitor the status of your battery.
  • In addition, you can (de)activate Battery Life Management here.

Other devices

You must be wondering if the iPhone, Apple Watch, and sort of MacBook are the only devices that can display Battery Health. If you don't want to install any other app and just rely on native system tools, then yes, you won't see Battery Health anywhere else. For example, Apple has unfortunately completely forgotten about the iPad, and you can't see the battery condition on it at all. However, there is a great program called coconutBattery, with which you can view additional information about battery health. On a MacBook, this application can show you the Battery Condition percentage, if you then connect an iPad, you can also display the Battery Condition on it. In addition, you can also check the number of battery cycles, which also tells about the overall health of the battery.
