Thirty million Facebook accounts were recently hacked by attackers who are now being investigated by the FBI. They gained access to sensitive personal information. Facebook disclosed the incident two weeks ago and said 50 million accounts were compromised. However, the published number was recently reduced to the mentioned 30 million, but the amount of data stolen makes it the worst attack in the history of the social network. After all, this is also why Facebook has made available a tool through which users can find out whether their specific account has been hacked or not.

Check account status:

For Facebook users who are concerned that their data is at risk, there is a way to find out if their data has been stolen. All you have to do is visit tuto page in the Help Center. At the bottom of the page, every user should see a blue box detailing whether the account has been hacked or not.

Sample message:

Hackers gained access to Facebook through access tokens, allowing them to obtain information about each user of the compromised account – name, contact information, gender, current marital status, religion, hometown, date of birth, type of device used to access Facebook, education, jobs, 15 recent searches and more.

"We are working with the FBI, which is actively investigating and has asked us not to disclose who may be behind the attack," Facebook Vice President Guy Rosen wrote on his blog.

The good news is that the attack really only affects the social network itself and does not affect any other services that Facebook owns. Users of Messenger, Messenger Kids, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, Workplace, Pages, payments or developer accounts do not have to lose their sensitive data.
