With the arrival of the new MacBook Pros, we finally got to see the release of the expected macOS Monterey operating system. It brings with it a number of interesting innovations, led by a more sophisticated FaceTime application, modified Messages, improved Safari browser, Live Text function, AirPlay to Mac, iCloud+, concentration modes and quick notes. It is the last, quick notes, that we will focus on in this article. How to actually activate them and use them to the maximum?

What can Quick Notes do?

As the name itself suggests, quick notes are used for quickly writing down not only notes, but also various ideas and thoughts that you would not like to forget. Until now, on Apple computers, we had to solve something similar by first turning on the relevant application, creating a new record, and then writing it down. It's not really complicated, but the truth is that even these few steps take time, which is why most users actually end up coughing up the data. Quick Notes solves this problem in a rather elegant way. With practically one click, you can call up a dialog window and create immediately. After closing the window, the note is automatically saved and synchronized with iCloud, thanks to which it is also accessible from an iPhone or iPad.

How to work with quick notes

By default, quick notes can be activated via the Active Corners function, i.e. by moving the cursor to the lower right corner. Subsequently, a small square in the colors of the Dock will appear in this place, which you just need to click on and the already mentioned window will open. In this step, it already works as a classic native application Notes - you can not only write down the text, but also format it, use lists, tables, add images or links, and so on.

Quick Notes via Active Corners
A quick note can be called up by moving the cursor to the lower right corner and tapping the square.

However, this is only one possible way to activate Quick Notes. Subsequently, there is one more, slightly more interesting option that you will appreciate when browsing the Internet. When you're on a website and you like the text, or just part of it, you just have to mark it, right-click and select Add to quick note, which will open the mentioned window again. But this time with the difference that the marked text is automatically inserted together with the link to the source.

Making more options available

Of course, activating a quick note by hovering the cursor in the lower right corner may not suit everyone. Fortunately, this can be changed quite easily, directly in System Preferences > Mission Control > Active Corners, where you can "remap" the feature to the three remaining corners. Anyway, it doesn't end there. At the same time, it is possible to call up the quick note window via a keyboard shortcut. In that case, just open System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts, where in the Mission Control section just find the option at the very bottom A quick note. By default, it can be activated via the hotkey “fn + Q.” If this abbreviation does not suit you, it can of course be changed.
