File proxy

If you have an item—a file or folder—and you want to store it in more than one Drive folder, you create a shortcut to avoid duplication. You can rename, move or even delete the shortcut - the original folder is not affected. Right-click the file or folder you want to create a shortcut from. Tap the option Add shortcut to Drive and select the location where you want to place the shortcut. Finally, click the button Add shortcut.

Cut and paste

Many of you may have been using this procedure for a long time, but for others it may be a surprising novelty. On Google Drive in the browser interface, you can drag and drop items in the classic way, but sometimes you may want to avoid using the mouse when moving from folder to folder. In this case, you can use keyboard shortcuts to cut (Ctrl+X) or copy (Ctrl+C) the saved file, navigate to the desired location, and press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V to paste it, just like in the Finder in the MacOS operating system or in Windows Explorer. These keyboard shortcuts work in Chromium-based browsers.

Offline access

You usually access files stored on Google Drive when your browser or device is connected to the Internet. However, for those times when Wi-Fi is not available, Google Drive supports offline access. First, download from the Chrome Store Google Docs Offline extension. Then go to Google Drive in your browser, click on the gear icon at the top right and select Settings. Finally, check the appropriate item in the Offline section.

Sending large files in Gmail

If you're sending large files via Gmail, you can use Google Drive to avoid restrictions on the size of attachments. All you have to do is upload the relevant file to Google Drive, and then just send the link via e-mail. This way you can share files up to 10GB in size via Gmail. You can insert a link into an email by starting to write the appropriate message in Gmail and then clicking on the Google Drive icon at the bottom of the window.

Mass conversion

It may happen that you download a document to Google Drive that cannot be worked with by default in the Google Docs environment. But that's not a problem to change. If you want to convert files in Google Drive so that they can be edited in Google Docs, go to Google Drive and click the gear icon in the top right. Choose Settings, then check the appropriate item in the Convert Uploaded Files section.
