It's been in the Mac App Store since Tuesday free to download new operating system OS X Mavericks. Switching to it is very simple, just download the installation package and install the new system in a few steps. However, the advantage is if you create an OS X Mavericks installation disc just in case, so that you don't have to download from the Mac App Store again next time. The installation disk is especially useful for a clean installation of the system.
Creating an installation disc is now almost as easy as getting one Tipsport Promo code, which will be suitable for your betting with this office. It is necessary to use the Terminal during the process, but only one simple code needs to be entered into it, so even a user who does not normally come into contact with the Terminal can do it.
An external disk or USB stick with a minimum size of 8 GB is required to create the installation disk, and the complete contents of the device will be erased before the installation file is created.
Creating an installation disk or USB stick
To successfully create an installation disc, you must first download the new OS X Mavericks (direct link <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>). It is available for free in the Mac App Store. Even after installation, it is not a problem to download the installation file with OS X Mavericks at any time, however, the entire system is 5,29 GB, so it is not a good idea to save it for future use. Therefore, we create an installation disk.
If you are downloading OS X Mavericks for the first time (and you are still working on an older version of the system), a window with a wizard to install the new operating system will automatically pop up after the download is complete. Turn it off for now though.
Connect your chosen external drive or USB stick that can be completely formatted to your Mac, launch the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and insert the following code into it:
sudo /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app --nointeraction
The code must be entered in its entirety as one line and a name Untitled, which is contained in it, you must replace with the exact name of your external drive/USB stick. (Or name the selected unit Untitled.)
Once you have copied the code into the Terminal, the application will prompt you to enter the administrator password. Characters will not be displayed when typing for security reasons, but still type the password on the keyboard and confirm with Enter. After entering the password, the system will start processing the command, and messages about formatting the disk, copying the installation files, creating the installation disk and the completion of the process will pop up in the Terminal.
If everything was successful, a drive with a label will appear on the desktop (or in the Finder). Install OS X Mavericks with the installation application.
Clean install of OS X Mavericks
The newly created installation drive is especially needed if you want to perform a clean installation of a new operating system for some reason. The process isn't particularly complicated, but you can't do it without an installation disc.
[do action=”tip”]Before doing a clean install and formatting the drives, make sure you back up the entire drive (for example via Time Machine) so you don't lose any important data.[/do]
To perform a clean install, just follow these steps:
- Insert the external drive or USB stick with the OS X Mavericks installation file into the computer.
- Restart your Mac and hold the key during startup Option.
- From the drives offered, select the one on which the OS X Mavericks installation file is located.
- Before the actual installation, run Disk Utility (found in the top menu bar) to select the internal drive on your Mac and completely erase it (see image below). It is necessary that you format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). You can also choose the level of deletion security.
- After successfully erasing the drive, close Disk Utility and continue with the installation that will guide you.
System restore from backup
After performing a clean install, it's up to you whether you want to completely restore your original system, pull only selected files from the backup, or start with a completely clean slate.
After installing on a clean disk, OS X Mavericks offers you an automatic recovery of the entire system from a Time Machine backup. Just connect the appropriate external drive on which the backup is located. Then you can pick up where you left off in the previous system.
However, you can skip this step and use the app later Data Transfer Wizard (Migration Wizard). You can find detailed instructions for the application <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>His Data transfer wizard you can manually select which files from the backup you want to transfer to the new system, for example only individual users, applications or settings.
Luxury!!! Thanks for the tutorial…
If someone wanted to do a clean install and didn't have a USB stick or DVD handy like I did, you can do without, it just takes a bit longer because it installs twice.
You only need to install Mavericks once normally, via the App Store, which will not delete any data, but Mavarecisk will also be uploaded to the Recovery partition. After that, just restart the computer and hold Cmd+R at start-up, enter Disk Utility, erase the disk with Erase, exit Disk Utility and enter Install new version of OS X, or something like that.
Strange, yesterday I did the DMG to Flash USB process but it didn't want to boot. When I created a Mountain Lion USB it worked, but the Mavericks USB didn't boot. Some ideas?
I followed the instructions, unfortunately it gives me the error "Error erasing disk error number (-69888, 0)" when erasing the USB
So I would also recommend using cmd R and then deleting and installing directly from the app store, this is how I did lion or mountain lion,
Exactly. Just hold cmd plus r on reboot to wipe the disk and then download osx. I've done this with Mountain Lion as well, and yesterday I did a clean install of Maverick. Much easier than messing around with creating anything :-)
(it's the latest article, so I'm asking here, even though I know it's off topic)
Do you think there will be Retina on the Macbook Air sometime in the future?
It is to be expected. Retina resolution was a luxury...it's always like that in the beginning and then it slowly starts to become the standard. So if we already have so many devices with retina, it is possible that Air with retina will also appear. Personally, I am interested in the file about iPhone and macbook pro and iMac.
Well, I would like (as my question suggests) to buy an Air, but I would be sorry if I ever bought it now and in a year, 2 it would appear with Retina. I don't really need it right now, so if there's a chance it will be, I'll be happy to wait :)
R will definitely get retina. And it won't be long. In my opinion, within a year.
And wouldn't there be some tutorial on how to make sure that every icon I touch on the desktop doesn't end up in an endless pile in the upper right corner on that damn OS called Mavericks? I hope we won't have to wait long for the first patch. Horror!
Sir, you are insane to me.
Radek, I would rather call you a demented person. I have the exact same problem - every icon I grab or create on the desktop automatically piles up on the top right icon of the desktop, or a bunch of them. I can't do anything about it, restarts don't help and the desktop icons stop being usable. And for that, you will speak up here with your nonsensical post
And wouldn't setting Sort by or Show by in the View menu help? By default, I don't have anything on my desktop, but when I put a few representatives there, I could move them as I pleased and they didn't clump together. You have set something wrong.
Everything was working normally until the upgrade to Mavericks. The icons stayed the same, but once I grab one, I won't let it go back to the same spot, it's all bunched up in one corner. Just some bug. I'll try to switch it all, although I'll lose the current layout, but hopefully it will help. It's just a shame - it's like dumping the whole desk, including the drawers, in a pile and starting sorting and straightening again.
I also have a Maverick and nothing you describe happens to me. I deliberately put about 15 icons on my desktop and tried dog pieces with them and they NEVER crumpled into one pile. Start a thread on MacFóru.cz, someone will surely advise you on what to do about it. It's certainly not a bad Maverick though. One hundred percent you will have something set somewhere that causes it. I was unable to set up the behavior you described, so I can't advise you how to get out of it.
That link is to the wrong page, I wrote macforum dot cz and it was inserted into the comment as a link to some website like ru dot cz. Sorry about that.
Thanks, I haven't gotten to that yet, I just know I've been going through the settings and haven't found anything out of the ordinary. You can't even set such strange behavior. Restarting didn't help. But I won't give up. ;-)
I recommend the desktop saver application. Not that it will solve this problem, but it will keep the icon settings in case something happens next time…
So after switching to Mavericks today, I have the same problem with desktop folders clustering in the top right corner after trying to move any desktop folder anywhere…
How about setting the icon grid size?
Isn't the grid so big that there is only 1 position on the desktop?
Thomas b.
No way, I tried resizing the grid, but that's not it. I'm already at the stage where it all doesn't fall into one corner, but even so I still have problems - some places on the desktop are fine, from others the icon escapes somewhere... just maybe 5 places elsewhere. I don't know what to do with it yet.
Hello, does anyone know how to back up not only iTunes, but also iPhone, iPad, etc. backups? When I tried it through Timemachine before, it failed exactly like this.
Just copy the iTunes folder, it is located in the system folder Music :)
Hello, just install the update from the appstore while booting, press CMD plus R, format the Macintosh HD, close the disk utility and choose a new installation....
Sorry for the stupid question, I'm just a woman :-D But is it necessary to back up data before installing OS X? Or are they not deleted during installation? Thanks
By default, data is not deleted. However, I can say from my own experience that there is definitely a % of users who simply do not pass the installation the first time. For this reason, it is always better to give a deposit. ;-)
yes yes unfortunately it happened to me :-(
Are there any problems if I don't do a clean install?
I would also like to know if a clean installation makes any sense for me, I haven't noticed any problems yet..
I also just upgraded to a MacBook Pro 15 - 2012, from ML, and thought I was farting on the recommendations in the discussions for a clean install. They're smart people again, I thought to myself... Who's to do with it? And how the upgrade went beautifully, everything finished fine... First I noticed that somehow the number of unread e-mails disappeared - in the icon of the Apple mail client (and that there were about 900 of them before the upgrade), I continued to upgrade... the new version of Aperture, GarageBand, etc... I had one version of Band left there from ML 5.0.5, I had it upgraded to 6.0.5 and it was installed again, so I had two versions of Band, 5.0 and 6.0, in Launchpad and applications at the same time... When updating iMovie, it halfway through the download it bit, but somehow it got installed (the iMovie icon changed color from yellow to purple (new version), however, the next day it offered to update iMovie again, which stuck again in the middle of the download, the iMovie icon disappeared in the Launchpad, only the data remained about the remaining size until the end of the download and PAUSE and it could not start.
After opening the e-mail client, the sent messages disappeared, perhaps a tenth of the received ones... fortunately, they are backed up by Google.
Well, now with the help of this article I have successfully completed a clean installation and everything is fine, Mail and programs, for which I thank the author of the article very much!
Thanks again to Dejwik for the tip on Liondiskmaker – I recommend it.
I opted for a clean install without an inst disk.
But I would like to advise or maybe rather to reassure and supplement so that I don't do something wrong.
1. I download Mavericks and install. (I have it downloaded)
2. I restart the Mac, hold cmd + R when restarting (does something happen?)
3. I start the disk utility - format the Macintosh HD - exit the disk utility
4. I install a new OS X - how? from where? will any offer pop up?
Will Mavericks offer to restore from a Time Machine backup?
Sorry, I'm doing this for the first time, so please be patient :)
Thanks for the tips and advice
And I'm not even blonde :))))
To Point 4, as soon as you suddenly leave the disk utility, it will install a new OS under it and the installer will pop up saying that it is downloading components from the Internet ……. Be prepared for a certain amount of time required for such a solution. Umna, on a relatively good network, it took about 5 hours ....
Díky
Otherwise, if someone had Fusion drives installed on an officially unsupported Mac and wanted to install Mavericks - beware, Fusion drives (CoreStorage) are not compatible with 10.8/10.9. You will need to delete and recreate the Fusion drive.
If someone had this problem, I spent another day, but at least I know what and how to solve it :-D So let me know if you need to lead on Twitter (@czechboy0)
Can I back up my data to the same external drive that I plan to create the OS X installer on? Can the installer be deleted from there?
I'm dealing with that too. In my opinion, it is necessary to divide the disk into partitions where one will contain the backup + other data and the smaller one will actually boot Maverick.
A small question - the article does not mention so simply where the installer from the App Store was actually saved and what to do with it after creating the installation flash drive - if it is on a computer that is only used for the download. It would probably be worth deleting the several gigabyte file again. So what about that? Where to look for it?
It's in Applications and it's called Install OS X Mavericks.app - it can be deleted after use.
FROM 14:02 I'm doing a clean installation... I gave myself triple security of deletion, so it took a fair long time :D but I can say that it was worth it and I like Mavericks :) just the usual safari and home page and a new way like there I'm jumping on the new tab, it's great :D I highly recommend switching :) if anything it's now 22:18 :D and I don't regret the time
I'm a complete layman, can OS X be installed on a machine other than a Mac, eg Samsung N145?
when trying to install on a PC (HP dv6 1330), I always get the error reason: mac-f22788a9. Does anyone know what to do with it?
I know what I should buy a Mac and not speculate with a hackintosch. Which probably does not have a single positive feature……
Hello, please advise me if I download maverick and just install it, can I keep the previous data, I have a lot of important programs that are difficult to install, is it possible without losing them? Thank you
if admin doesn't have password? is there any solution?
I installed Mavericks classically from the AppStore. The system is quite fast. Although I lost photos in the iPhoto library after updating the application, but ok.. Everything works as it should, except for one thing: I am not able to run the new Adobe Flash Player on my computer.. I download classically from the ofiko site. I run it and it still tells me that I have an outdated version. You can find it through the Finder that it is the latest version.. Also, the player was uploaded somewhere else. Previously, the icon was classically between applications .. now it is not.
Please, can anyone help me?… I have MBA 2011.
Hello, I want to ask a question. After copying the code and entering the password in the Terminal application, a message will appear:
Failed to start erasure of disk due to error (-9999, 0).
An error occurred erasing the disk.
It repeats itself and cannot be continued.
Please, give me an advice.
Thank you
…I had a similar thing and solved it via DISK UTILITY. Format the flash drive again, just to be sure, I left a single partition on it..
That's what I did. Still the same message..
I'm also asking for advice on what to do with it :/ I'm stuck on it. I tried 2 flash drives and nothing :/
Hello, I ran into a pretty major problem while installing OS X Mavericks. I tried to install the system on a MacBook Pro 3,1 (late 2007 / 4 GB RAM, currently OS X 10.6.8) via the App store first. The installer downloaded and started to install, but after restarting the laptop wouldn't start - it froze on system loading and kept restarting itself. Only recovery from Time Machine via the Mountain Lion installation CD helped.
I therefore tried to create a Mavericks installation USB according to your instructions and then also through the DiskMakerX application (instructions here: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/10/how-to-make-your-own-bootable-os-x-10-9-mavericks-usb-install-drive/).
When starting the laptop, I hold ALT, a menu of startup disks appears, but nothing happens after selecting the USB installation disk. The Apple logo lights up for a while and then the system loads from the standard HDD.
I tried to see if there was an error in the USB drive, but my MacBook Air (mid 2011 / OS X 10.8.5) can boot it and install Mavericks from it without any problems.
I also tried manually formatting the USB drive, but the result was always the same.
Can't you imagine where the problem could be in the case of an older MB Pro? I will add that this model should be able to handle Mavericks according to official data.
Hello, I deleted the disk because I thought I would restore maverick over the internet, but unfortunately they didn't allow me to because I bought a macbook from a friend and maverick was installed and now it asked me for a license in the app store for lion but I don't have it, now my entire macbook is deleted and I don't have a backup, is there any chance to restore it???
Is it possible to create an installer on a DVD? Thanks!
