You may have bought apps and games from the App Store over Christmas and New Year that you thought would really interest you. But you already know that the opposite is true. If you don't want to use them and they were paid titles or different subscriptions, you can ask Apple to cancel the payment and return the spent funds to you.

If it is the App Store, unfortunately you cannot do this directly in it, but you have to visit a special website or click on the link in the e-mail that came to your inbox after confirming the purchase. You can then return content from the iTunes Store, Apple Books and other company services on the website. You can do so on any device that has a web browser. You have 14 days to do so from the time of purchase.

Claiming a refund on an App Store purchase

  • Go to the site reportproblem.apple.com, or redirect to them from the received e-mail.
  • Log in with your Apple ID.
  • Then click on the "I want" banner in the section What can we help you with?.
  • choose Request a refund.
  • Below after that choose a reason, why do you want to return the money? You can choose that you didn't want to buy the item at all, or that the purchase was made by a minor, etc.
  • choose Further.
  • Subsequently, only select an app or subscription or other item on the purchased list and select Submit. This the option will not appear, if you were redirected directly from the item's email.

Apple will then assess your situation and, if it recognizes your claim as legitimate, will refund you to the card from which you made the purchase. You will be duly informed about everything in the e-mail registered to your Apple ID. Items for which payment is still pending cannot be claimed. You have to wait for it to take place. Refunds can take up to 30 days.
