The macOS operating system prides itself on its simplicity and agility. This goes perfectly hand in hand with relatively easy control, in which Apple bets on the Magic Trackpad. It is the trackpad that is a relatively popular choice for apple users, who can easily control the system and, moreover, make the whole job significantly easier. This accessory is characterized not only by its processing and accuracy, but especially by other functions. Therefore, there is pressure detection with Force Touch technology or support for various gestures, which can be used to speed up work on the Mac.

It is for these reasons that Apple users prefer to use the aforementioned trackpad. Another alternative is the Magic Mouse. But the truth is that the apple mouse is not that popular. Although it supports gestures and can theoretically speed up work with Mac, it has been criticized for several reasons for years. At the same time, there are users who prefer a traditional mouse, because of which they literally have to say goodbye to the support of popular gestures, which can noticeably limit their work. Fortunately, there is an interesting solution in the form of an application Mac Mouse Fix.

Mac Mouse Fix

If you work on your Mac with a mouse that suits you more than the aforementioned trackpad or Magic Mouse, then you should definitely not overlook the rather interesting application Mac Mouse Fix. As we already indicated above, this utility expands the possibilities of even completely ordinary mice and, on the contrary, allows apple users to use all the benefits of gestures that you could otherwise "enjoy" only in combination with a trackpad. To make matters worse, the app is also available for free. All you have to do is download it from the official website, install it and then adjust the settings to your needs. So let's look directly into the application.

Mac Mouse Fix

The application as such consists of only one window with settings, where the most important options are offered, from activating Mac Mouse Fix to setting the functions of individual mouse buttons. As you can see in the picture attached above, you can specifically set the behavior of the middle button (wheel) or possibly others, which may differ from model to model. But the truth is that you can easily get by with a completely ordinary mouse, as the key role is played by the wheel. For example, you can double-click it to activate the Launchpad, hold it down to display the desktop, or click and drag to activate Mission Control or switch between desktops. In this regard, it depends on which direction you drag the cursor.

Two important options are subsequently offered below. It's about Smooth scrollingInvert direction. As the names themselves suggest, the first option activates the possibility of smooth and responsive scrolling, while the second turns the direction of the scrolling itself. The speed itself can then be adjusted by the rider in the middle. Of course, the functions of individual buttons and subsequent operations can be adjusted to the form that suits each user the most. It is also appropriate to draw attention to the plus and minus buttons located in the upper left corner, which are used to add or remove a button and its operation. Safety is also worth mentioning. The source code of the application is publicly available within the framework repositories on GitHub.

Can it replace the Trackpad?

In the finale, however, there is still one fundamental question. Can Mac Mouse Fix completely replace the trackpad? Personally, I am among the Apple users who use the macOS operating system in combination with a regular mouse, as it suits me a little better. From the beginning, I was extremely excited about the solution. In this way, I was able to significantly speed up my work on the Mac, especially when it comes to switching between desktops or activating Mission Control. Until now, I used keyboard shortcuts for these activities, but this is not as comfortable and fast as using the mouse wheel. However, it is also worth mentioning that there are also situations when this utility can paradoxically be a burden. If you play video games on your Mac from time to time, then you should consider turning off Mac Mouse Fix before playing. For example, problems may arise when playing CS:GO - especially in the form of unintentionally switching from the application.
