Screen sharing is an absolutely perfect feature that allows you to remotely help someone with certain operating system settings. Let's face it - who among us hasn't been called at least once by parents, grandparents or friends to give them advice on some kind of operating system setting, or to tell them, "how do you do this on a mac". In this case, most users would probably reach for some third-party application that makes it easy to share the screen. But did you know that if you or the other party want to share the screen of a macOS device, you don't need a third-party app to do so? If you want to know more, keep reading.

How to easily share your screen in macOS

When it comes to screen sharing applications, the absolute favorite across all operating systems is Team Viewer. This program has been available for several long years and offers countless other presets - Team Viewer is no longer just about screen sharing. However, if you want to connect from macOS device to macOS device (or if someone wants to connect to your Mac or MacBook), then you don't need Team Viewer at all. All you need is the native Messages app and, of course, a stable internet connection:

  • If you want to connect from your Mac to another Mac, first open the native application News.
  • Once you've done that, find yourself contact, that you want to connect to (to share your screen with).
  • After contact find it, find it unclick.
  • Then tap on the blue text in the upper right year Details.
  • Extended information about the selected contact will appear - for example, its location, or read receipt and do not disturb presets.
  • You are interested in this case icon of two overlapping rectangles in the white circle that you click on.
  • After clicking on this option, two boxes will appear:
    • Invite to share my screen – use this option if you want to share your screen with the selected contact.
    • Ask to share your screen – use this option if you want to request to share the selected contact's screen.
  • In both cases, it will appear on the other device notification, which invites the user to watch or share the screen.
  • The other side has an option for acceptance whether refusal.

After connecting, a screen will appear in which you can perform other actions - for example, disabling computer control, turning off sounds, etc. As I already mentioned, this function of course only works within the macOS operating system. So if you want to connect to Windows from your Mac or MacBook (and vice versa), you need to install an application that supports this. In this case, you will definitely not go wrong with Team Viewer, which is available for personal use absolutely free of charge. You can download it using this link.
