After a long insistence by many users, YouTube has recently officially made it possible to download videos for offline viewing. But only in its paid version, which is not yet available here. So if you don't plan to spend $10 a month on YouTube Red, read on for a simple way to still download video from the web directly to your Apple device. Probably the most convenient (and safest) way is to download using the well-known application Documents by Readdle.

There were many YouTube downloader apps. However, Apple consistently tries to block those applications whose main purpose is to download videos from YouTube. That's why if you type "YouTube Downloader" into the AppStore search today, you'll find almost no program that allows downloading in the results. And if so, it's possible that it will disappear from the AppStore before long. The Documents by Readdle application is therefore a kind of certainty and gives us the possibility to conveniently download files from the Internet, including videos from YouTube.

How to download video from YouTube to iPhone or iPad

  • In the YouTube application (or in Safari) si search for any video
  • Copy the link to the video (in the YouTube application using the arrow in the upper right corner of the video and then selecting "Copy link")
  • If you don't already have the Documents by Readdle app, download it free on the AppStore
  • Open it Documents by Readdle
  • In the left panel, select Browser
  • In the address bar enter the URL a website that allows you to download from YouTube (in this case it works well for example YooDownload.com, if you want to avoid ads, use Apowersoft Online Video Downloader)
  • To the line on the given website paste the copied link to the video and select Download
  • Once loaded, select your preferred resolution and click Download
  • In the window that appears, enter your own name, under which the video will be saved
  • View the video in the folder Documents - Downloads

After saving, the video can be further shared or exported to other applications, such as VLC. The Documents by Readdle application makes it possible to universally download files from the Internet, and it does not have a problem with YouTube or the Czech Uloz.to. And given that it is very popular globally, we can probably count on it in the future.
