Nowadays, it is not unusual for all kinds of companies to collect data about their customers and users. And it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. User data is also collected by Apple, and you have the option to download it quickly and easily for a better overview.

Apple, like Facebook or Google, allows users to download the data it collects about them. According to its own statement, the Apple company does not exaggerate the collection of user data, but its amount depends on the number of services you use. News site CBNC provided detailed instructions on how to download relevant user information.

If you take a closer look at your download data, you'll find that the most recorded interactions are for the App Store and iTunes. Apple will provide you with a list of every app, song, book, music video, and in-app purchase that has ever been made from your iCloud account since 2010.

Apple also knows about every song you've ever saved to iTunes Match, every product you've ever ordered from Apple—including their serial numbers, every customer support call you've made, and every repair you've made. However, the extent to which Apple collects information about you basically ends with this enumeration. Here's a statement from Apple's privacy team:

We do not include information such as calendar content, email content, and the like. If you use iCloud, you may notice the extremely short periods for which we store said data. We provide you with all the data that we ourselves have available at the time your request entered our system. We would also like to highlight the following: for example, conversations that took place within iMessage and FaceTime are protected by end-to-end encryption and cannot be seen or read by anyone except the sender and recipient. Apple cannot decrypt this data. Nor do we collect data associated with our customers' locations, Maps searches, or Siri requests.

How to download an archive with information

First of all go to Apple's privacy page. Scroll down to the paragraph with the title Access to Personal Information, where you click the link Privacy Contact Form. Choose here All Other English and on the following page, select an item from the drop-down menu Privacy Issues. Fill in all the information, enter a text in the style of "I'd like a copy of the private information Apple has stored on my account, please" in the comment and submit the form. The Apple privacy team should contact you soon with more detailed questions to verify your identity, after successful verification you will receive a second email containing the password to open the compressed file with your data. According to CNBC, the entire process can take about six days.

Finally

Apple keeps certain information about you. These are usually associated with the content you download and use, and with the products you've purchased from Apple, whether they're apps, music or books. There is absolutely no collection of sensitive information such as message content, your location data or copies of your photos.
