I would like some advice about iCloud. I had an iPhone 4 and backed up to iCloud. I bought an iPhone 4S and everything transferred to my new iPhone fine, but when I wanted to make a new backup, it tells me that there is not enough space, please expand. I don't want to pay for more storage for this. Is there a way to delete the old backup from iCloud, please? (Martin Domansky)

iCloud backup storage is easy to manage right from your device. You can delete entire backups as well as the contents of individual applications. An example is a music player where you have saved some movies or series and you don't need to back them up. We'll show you how to:

  • Open up Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backups > Manage Storage. Here you will see an overview of all backups, how much space they take up on iCloud and how much each application takes from it.
  • If you want to delete only the content of individual apps from the iCloud backup, it will select the app in question. You will see a list of files and their size. After pressing the button Adjust then you can delete individual files.
  • If you want to delete the entire device backup in order to create a new one, open the specific device menu (in the list Advances) and press Delete backup. This frees up the necessary space.
  • You can also check which data will be backed up in the menu. You can thus cancel the backup of photos if, for example, you save them to your computer through Photo Stream, or the content of individual applications, for example the above-mentioned video files. In this way, you can significantly save space on iCloud without the need to purchase additional GB.
