The Apple operating system macOS is much simpler than Windows. Although few people think about going back after switching to a Mac, the process of uninstalling apps can be a bit confusing for newcomers. Especially those moving from Windows may miss a uniform way to uninstall apps on an Apple computer. So, how to properly uninstall an app on Mac so that no other files are left behind?

Drag to trash

The easiest way to uninstall apps is to drag them from the Applications folder to the trash or by right-clicking on the app icon and selecting Move to trash. In this way, which may seem suspiciously simple, most applications on a Mac can be uninstalled. However, dragging to the trash doesn't get rid of all the associated files for the user, luckily an equally easy but more efficient way ensures that.

Deleting the remaining files

Even after deleting the application in the manner described above, files in which, for example, user settings are stored, remain on the computer. And even though these files often only take up a few megabits, it's a good idea to delete them as well. For example, using an app AppCleaner, which is completely free, and its operation is as simple as the previous method.

 • Open the program AppCleaner
 • The app you would like to get rid of drag from the Applications folder to the AppCleaner window
 • After the program finds all the files related to that application, choose the option remove
 • Eventual Enter password to your Mac account

What about the other apps?

If you tried to remove, for example, Adobe Flash Player using the previous methods, you will run into problems. Firstly, the program itself cannot be found in the Applications folder, and secondly, it requires its own uninstaller, without which you cannot get rid of the program. For example, you can find this handy tool for Flash Player here. For similar applications, Google or any other search engine will help you to get to the uninstaller. Of course, hidden malicious programs that we usually don't even know about, such as malware, adware, etc., can also be omitted. These can be removed, for example, using a program malvarebytes, whose basic version is also free.
