Hand in hand with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Apple launched a new privacy-focused web portal a few months ago. Here it allows its users, for example, to download a copy of all the data associated with their account. In addition, the new website also offers the option to completely delete an Apple ID account, which until now was only possible when submitting a request to Apple support. So let's show you step by step how to delete Apple ID and what you should think about before deleting it.

First of all, it is necessary to realize that deleting the Apple ID is an irreversible action and it is not possible to reactivate the account, i.e. your account and the data in it cannot be restored. Even Apple is allegedly no longer able to find the data and possibly save it in any way. For this reason too, we recommend that you read all the following points before deleting.

To the content below already you won't have access to:

  • Photos, videos, documents, and other content you've stored in iCloud.
  • You will no longer receive any messages or calls via iMessage, FaceTime or iCloud Mail.
  • You will not be able to use services such as iCloud, App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, Apple Pay, iMessage, FaceTime and Find My iPhone
  • Your paid iCloud storage will be canceled.

Before requesting deletion, we recommend taking the following steps:

  • Remove all apps from iCloud that are backed up here.
  • Save copies of any Apple-related information that you currently need or expect.
  • Turn off all devices to avoid problems with apps that use your Apple ID or iCloud account. If your account is deleted, you cannot sign out of iCloud or turn off My Finder Activation Lock on your device. If you forget to log out, you may not be able to use the device if the account is deleted.

How to delete an Apple ID account:

  6. read terms and conditions to delete, check the consent box and choose an option Continue.
  7. Choose how to receive account status updates: e-mail, which is used to create an Apple ID, other email address, or phone. Then select an option Continue.
  8. Copy, download or type unique access code, which is needed to contact Apple Support in case you want to change your mind about deleting your account within a short period of time after submitting your request. Then select an option Continue.
  9. Please enter Access code and confirm that you have received it. Then select an option Continue.
  10. Read the list of important details again and select an item Delete account.
  11. Apple will confirm that it is working to delete your account on the web and in an email. The company says the process can take up to seven days. Your account will remain active during verification.
  12. Don't forget yourself unsubscribe from your Apple ID on all devices and web browsers before your account is deleted.

If you plan to use your account in the future, there is an option to just deactivation your Apple ID. Deactivation differs from deletion in that the account can be re-logged in using the security code you received when deactivating and safely you saved it. They need to contact Apple support and they will provide the code mentioned above.
