If you own an Apple TV, you have surely noticed that on the back or any other side of the "box" does not find no connector that would allow the connection of some media - for example, a USB flash drive. Apple decided on this solution primarily so that you cannot play your downloaded movies through Apple TV, forcing you to buy or rent movies in the store. So how do you watch movies on Apple TV without buying them on iTunes? We will look at that in this article.
What you will need
In order to play non-iTunes movies on your Apple TV, you'll need some kind of remote storage. Feel free to use it iCloudDrive, or perhaps Google Drive, Dropbox and other cloud services. If you are among the users who have own home NAS station, so I have good news for you – even in this case, you can stream movies to Apple TV from your home NAS server play back. However, it is of course necessary to be in same network. The last thing you'll need is an app infuse, which is available in App Store free to download, but you'll need it to stream content to your Apple TV subscription. Applications Infuse you have to download how to iPhone, so do Apple TV.
Infusion on iPhone
Applications infuse, which I mentioned above must first be downloaded to iPhone. The entire application is also set up and controlled from the iPhone - v Apple TV after that you practically only playing files. In order to be able to use the functions of the Infuse application that are needed, you need to reach for For version application that comes out on 29 CZK per month, 259 CZK per year, or 1 for life. It is also available free trial version, during which you will decide for yourself whether Infuse is the right nut for you. After starting the trial version, or after paying, just move to the section in the bottom menu Files. Here now tap on the option Add files and choose from the menu possibility (see below), which allows you to drag and drop files into Infuse. The whole Infuse app works by "drag-and-drop" the files you want to displayed i na AppleTV, where they can then be played back.
iCloud
In case you want to join your iCloud Drive, so select the option in the menu From the cloud. A window will open with all of them files, that you have stored on iCloud Drive. Here is enough for now select movies or other video files you want to transfer to Apple TV, and then confirm selection. Now all you have to do is launch the app on your Apple TV infuse, where your chosen video file will find
Google Drive, Dropbox and more
If you prefer another competing cloud storage to iCloud, select the option in the menu to add files Add service. Then choose which one here cloud service you want to use, and then get to it log in. Then execute and confirm pairing with application Infusion. After loading the cloud storage, you're good to go choose video files, that you want to play on Apple TV, mark them with an asterisk and finally confirm selection. After that, the selected videos will appear again in Apple TV within the application Infusion.
NAS station, home server
If you own a home server, then you practically win, because in this case the procedure is much simpler. To watch videos using a home NAS server, just go to the Apple TV they opened the app infuse, and then using the icon gear wheel moved to Settings, where then click on the section Storage, where your The NAS server appears. Click to it connect insert your login and is done – you can jump into playback. If you want to add a home NAS station to your iPhone for the first time, you can - just go to the section for adding files in the Infuse application, where the station from the home network will appear.
I use an AirPort Time capsule 2tb as a Nas server. It works great.
I use a NAS from Synology and it also works without problems. :)
Why so complicated? On my Mac, I open itunes and upload the movies I want to watch to my library. On the Apple TV, I open Computers and the movie library and watch for free without any downloaded app.
I have Infuse and Naska from Synology. Complete satisfaction after all those Rasp Pi, mini PC with Windows, etc.
Yes, it cost 10 with the HDD, but it is a perfect solution.
It also works beautifully with sat receivers running Enigma2 (Dreambox, VU+, etc.). You can easily connect the HDD to them via USB.
Plex Server on NAS…
low budget solution: today many modems have usb for connecting the fdd disk, which is then shared via smb. It is then sufficient to access it via vlc player, infusion, or FE file explorer (the best price/functionality ratio)
You are right, this is a great and simple option. Nowadays, even the cheapest routers have USB ports.
And yet such a brilliant solution! Thank you :-)
If you have an Apple TV at home, you definitely have an iPhone or iPad or a Mac. Then there is no need for a NAS or cloud storage because I can play anything via AirPlay. And does anyone nowadays store their film library on discs at home? Really? This reminds me of a time a few decades ago when some people filled their cabinets and shelves with video tapes. Today, the home movie library is a thing of the past – everything is somewhere on the net. I consider storing such things "for myself" a waste of time and, as a result, uneconomical.
Yes, indeed, some users still have movies stored on discs, and believe me, those users are still definitely more than those who use AirPlay. In addition, in my case, when transferring videos and movies using AirPlay, the image is often choppy, which is why I choose this alternative option "by cable". Maybe a waste of time and uneconomical for you, standard for other users. In addition, you definitely won't be able to get some titles in higher resolution (4K) "somewhere on the net", which is another reason why users use cable.
That's bullshit. The article is about playing downloaded movies, and you're explaining to us that we can't find some of them online? And where are the movies downloaded from?
As for the ratio of people with movie libraries on discs and people using airplay - this is just your layman's opinion, which is probably wrong. Try to broaden your horizons.
So please tell me some site where you can watch 4K movies without downloading, without ads and without jams. Some users don't even have the internet available to handle a 4K video stream. As for the ratio of people with a movie library vs people using AirPlay, I can say the same about your opinion. It is also necessary to think about older people, not only about the young generation. And as far as I know, we don't know each other, that's why I don't understand why you're looking at me? I'm telling you too, because I don't know you. Have a nice day :)
I personally have a macbook, iphone, ipad and a pool of gigabit internet, but I definitely don't want to play movies via airplay, I've been using NAS and infuse for over a year, I upload movies to synology and watch them and I don't have to turn on the macbook, or save them in phone or iCloud. :) and as for the older generation, who will want to play movies that they normally download to NTB, so I think that instead of researching how to play it via Apple TV, they will classically put it on a flash drive and stick it in the TV, because everyone already has a TV playing from usb disk
Well, of course, it's best to have your phone jammed and then the battery dead to play a movie on the TV, that's really a "luxury". BTW, during the quarantine, when the quality of the video decreased thanks to EU editors and the internet was "congested", the magic of your own cloud took on even more magic...
Playing movies via Airplay, on the other hand, is a totally awkward and emergency solution.
Why are some posts not appearing here at all? Blocking by TextFactory spread?
What posts do you mean? No comments have been deleted.
The easiest way and without the need to subscribe to any application is via VLC player. Just install this application for free on your Apple TV, go to the "remote playback" tab and follow the instructions to enter the address in the internet browser on your PC. Then just drag the movie into the browser and that's it. The movie will automatically start on Apple TV. It also handles subtitles.
Would there be an article about how to watch Netflix from TV on a projector? Or how to use an iPhone as a modem to pair it all, or some advice. Thanks.
Do you install Netflix on Apple TV and connect it via HDMI to the projector?
I just can't do that. I only have a usb slot on the projector. When I put it directly from the iPhone to the projector, I can't play it, so I wanted to try to somehow combine it with tv.
In that case, you'll have to buy a proper projector. If it only has USB, it is probably intended for presentations and the like. Buy a projector with HDMI and the problems will be over.
And will that solve the problem? If so, thanks.
Finally, Youtube movies downloaded anywhere. Goodbye to 2020 movies that I don't like if I want apple tv.
We have a NAS Synology DS418 with four drives, Plex installed on it, and Plex is also in Apple TV, playback through it is very convenient, including various information about the movie/series, the ability to pause playback on aTV and continue on iPhone, Mac, Windows, Linux and anywhere I can think of, even outside the local network. I also tried regular DLNA and VLC, it also worked without problems, but it didn't remember the position in the movie when it paused. Otherwise, Plex cost 129 CZK forever and works everywhere, why buy the overpriced Infuse for 1.590 CZK, which also only works in the home network? Or worse, pay a subscription.
In addition, Synology handles playback in several different places in 4k without any problems, the iPhone does not discharge, it is not necessary to have a Mac on, and the Apple TV thus acquires a completely different dimension, from a stupid box it suddenly became a rather smart box.
Does it handle Czech subtitles? And as a bonus, do you need to complete the missing subtitles? My older Rpi box has reached its end and I'm looking at where Apple TV has moved...
As far as I know, Plex costs €4,99 per month. This is quite an expensive luxury compared to 250 CZK per year for Infuse.
Hello, I have a Samsung TV and it has never happened to me that a movie starts cutting on the Apple TV application and sometimes stops, now I bought a movie and it keeps getting stuck and I can't watch it, please advise, thank you very much
Hello, Infuse in ATV cannot find any content that I added to it on the iphone. Any advice on what to do with it?

In the case of Synology, it is easy to play directly from the Synology app, even if I am not on the same network.
