Do you want to have a completely clean desktop on your Mac, or do you prefer quick access to all internal and external drives, servers and optical drives? Whether you belong to the first or second group, you can always choose which system icons appear on the desktop in macOS.

It is important to note that by default, only representatives of external disks and drives are displayed. However, all hard drives and servers to which the computer is connected can also be permanently displayed on the desktop.

Displaying system icons on the desktop

  • Let's move to Area
  • We will make sure that the bold text is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen Finder
  • We click on Finder in the upper left corner of the screen
  • We select an option from the menu Preferences…
  • In the newly opened window, we move to the category In general
  • Below the text Display these items on the desktop you can check which shortcuts you want to display on the desktop
