The OS X operating system contains many useful widgets and so-called utilities, thanks to which the user can easily operate his computer. One of them is AirPort Settings (AirPort Utility). This helper is designed to configure and control Wi-Fi networks that use Apple's AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express or Time Capsule…

The first mentioned product is essentially a classic Wi-Fi router. Its little brother Express is used to extend the Wi-Fi network to a larger area and can also be used as a device that enables home wireless streaming via AirPlay. Time Capsule is a combination of a Wi-Fi router and an external drive. It is sold in 2- or 3-terabyte variants and can take care of automatic backups of all Macs on a given network.

In this tutorial, we'll show you how AirPort Utility can be used to regulate Internet connection time. Such an option could be appreciated by many parents who simply do not want their children to spend whole days on the Internet. Thanks to AirPort Utility, it is possible to set a daily time limit or range in which a certain device on the network will be able to use the Internet. When the user of the device exceeds the allowed time, the device simply disconnects. Time range settings are freely customizable and may vary from day to day.

Now let's see how to set time limits. First of all, it is necessary to open the applications folder, in it the Utility subfolder, and then we can start the AirPort Utility we are looking for (AirPort Settings). The process can be significantly accelerated using the Spotlight search box, for example.

After successfully launching AirPort Utility, a window will appear in which we can see our connected network device (the already mentioned AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express or Time Capsule). Now click to select the appropriate device and then select the option Edit. In this window, we select a tab Sew and check the item on it Access control. After that, just select the option Time Access Control…

With this, we finally got to the offer we were looking for. In her we can select certain devices using our network and set times when the network will be operational for them. Each device has its own item with its own settings, so the customization options are really wide. We start the process of adding a device by clicking on the + symbol in the section Wireless clients. After that, it is enough to enter the name of the device (it does not have to match the actual name of the device, so it can be, for example daughterview etc.) and its MAC address.

You can find out the MAC address as follows: On an iOS device, just select Settings > General > Information > Wi-Fi Address. On Mac, the procedure is also simple. You click on the apple symbol in the upper left corner of the screen and choose About this Mac > More information > System profile. The MAC address is located in the section Network > Wi-Fi.

After successfully adding the device to the list, we move to the section Wireless access times and here we set the individual days and time range in which the device we selected will get access to the network. You can restrict either specific days of the week, or set uniform restrictions for weekdays or weekends.

In conclusion, it is necessary to add that a similar network management application also exists for iOS. Current version AirPort Utility in addition, it also allows you to set connection time intervals, so the operation described in the instructions can also be performed from an iPhone or iPad.
