If you've installed iOS 5 on your iPhone 7 and you're on T-Mobile, you may have noticed that the switch to turn off 3G has disappeared in the settings, replaced by the option to turn off LTE. If you live in a place where the 3G signal is weak, the phone often has to search for a network, which has a significant impact on battery life, so it is better to turn off 3G, however, switching to LTE will still keep 3G active.
Our reader m. he sent us a tip on how to return the 3G switch to the menu in the mobile network settings. The switch affects the carrier profile settings (Carrier Settings), so its latest update must be removed from the device.
- A restore must be done for this operation. Back up your phone first, either through iTunes or iCloud
- Restore from backup. Either after connecting your phone to iTunes and selecting recovery or restoring your phone to factory settings (General > Reset > Wipe data and settings) and then recall the backup you made earlier. If you are asked to update your carrier profile before restoring from backup, decline.
- After the reset, the phone will ask you twice if you want to update the carrier profile (Update Carrier Settings). This update in both cases refuse.
The mentioned shortcoming should be solved in the future by iOS 7 updates. Apple is apparently preparing version 7.0.3, which will also fix the broken iMessage and the newly discovered security hole, it is also known that iOS 7.1 is already being tested. If you suffer from fast draining of your phone, you can nevertheless solve the missing 3G network switch in this way.
If instead of 3G I now have LTE and I want both, I guess I'm out of luck, right? Sometimes I would like to turn on only EDGE, but since I move around Prague 4 a lot, I like LTE...
After updating to 7.1, there should be an option to turn off and on both 3G and LTE.
Excellent, so be it :)
today I was at the Apple store because of a problem with iMessage in iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. I didn't receive iMessage messages, they only came. In the Apple store, they said that I should try to update the carrier settings directly through the iPhone, and then just reactivate iMessage. And… it works ;)
It works, but let's say it's only about a day, then it stops again. Best to wait for 7.0.3 where Apple will fix the bug.
I had a similar problem. Try this: settings-messages-sending and receiving - and there you probably have your iCloud email contact checked. You only need to leave your number on. It works for me since this change.
Was it possible to turn off 5G on the 3ce?
No, there was a switch for LTE instead of 3G :-) :-)
Bullshit, I have a five and I had a 3G switch there (I used it in the mountains)
After updating to iOS7 and updating the carrier profile, it really was like this with the operator T-mobile. So no bullshit. I also sent a screenshot with a sample.
So yeah, I'm sorry. I have Vodafone and both with iOS6 and now with iOS7 I have a 3G switch there.
I have a 3G switch there...
Well, I'm no expert, but it obviously depends on what kind of operator you have. I have VF and I have to turn off 3G.
This only applies to T-Mobile customers.
The procedure does not work, even from DFU
the setting is probably saved in baseband
after updating to iOS 7, I only had the option to turn off/on LTE, according to this guide, I returned 3G and it worked... But now I updated to 7.0.3 and I only have LTE again and it can't go back. Does anyone know what to do with it?
