Split View is a great and useful feature that can also be used on a Mac. Allows you to work in two windows at the same time. Mastering Split View correctly on a Mac is a bit more complicated than on an iPad, but it is definitely worth adopting this procedure as part of a more comfortable and efficient work.

While activating Split View on the iPad involves dragging the desired application from the Dock to the desktop, Split View on the Mac works on the principle of working with windows. How to "drag" a window to the desktop on Mac? It's very simple - working with windows in Split View is basically no different from the way we work with windows on the Mac every day.

  • For Split View to work properly on a Mac, it's important that one of the application windows you want to work with in this mode is minimized. You can reduce the window by one short click on the green button in the upper left corner.
  • You open the window of the second desired application in classic mode and long-click on the green button in the upper left corner to change it - the window should automatically move in a rectangular shape to the left side of the screen.
  • You should then see thumbnails of application windows that can be launched in Split View on the right side of the screen. Then all you have to do is activate the right application by simply clicking on its thumbnail.
  • You can easily change the width of the windows by moving the black dividing line between them. While the windows in Split View on the iPad can be displayed either in the classic ratio of 50:50 or in the ratio of 70:30, there is no restriction in this regard on the Mac.
  • Split View mode can be exited in two different ways - after clicking on the green button, the given window will appear in normal mode, another option is to press the Esc key.

Mission Control

Another way to display two application windows side by side is via Mission Control. You can activate Mission Control either by pressing the F3 key, by swiping upwards on the trackpad with four fingers, by double-tapping with two fingers on the Magic Mouse, or by clicking on the corresponding icon in the Dock or Launchpad (launch it with the F4 key).

  • Launch Mission Control using one of the methods above.
  • In the panel at the top of the screen, select the desired application and drag its thumbnail to the thumbnail of another application.
