OS X Yosemite brings quite a lot of new features, some of which are better known, some of which are not. One of the lesser known is a feature of the native email client, the application Email. This feature doesn't have a name, but what it does in a nutshell is ask your email provider's server for the optimal Mail settings and readjust the application according to the answer.
The problem occurs when there is no response from the server and the function gets stuck in a loop. The entire client then behaves as if it is not responding to your requests. Worst case scenario, you don't send any mail at all. If you are facing these issues, the following procedure may be the solution.
- Open Mail settings (⌘,).
- Select a bookmark from the top menu Accounts.
- In the sidebar, select the problem account and on its tab Advanced uncheck the option Automatically detect and maintain account settings.
- Go to another tab from the top menu (for example In general) and confirm the changes made.
- Go back to the bookmark Accounts, select the same account, but this time stay on the first tab Account information.
- In the item Outgoing mail server (SMTP) select an option Edit list of SMTP servers…. A new window will open.
- Select the SMTP server of the problem account and on the tab Advanced uncheck the option Automatically detect and maintain account settings.
- Close everything and confirm the changes.
- Quit Mail (⌘Q) and relaunch it.
Hello, does anyone have a problem with not downloading all their mail? I have about 5 e-mails in my company e-mail, and when I add the right one and more about the account to the account, maybe only a tenth of them are downloaded.
Not using Exchange?
Hello, yes, I use it.
So welcome to Yosemite! This is a fairly widespread problem that has not yet been fixed by Apple. Almost everyone in our company suffers from similar problems. According to Google, no one really knows how to remove it.. (surprisingly) Like try clicking on the Inbox of the given account and in the Menubar select Mailbox->Rebuild (Mailbox -> Rebuild). If it doesn't help, try deleting the account completely and adding it again. If that doesn't help either (according to my experience, it's 50:50), the only thing left to do is a: wait b: switch to an alternative client.
If you're using Outlook on OS Yosemite, follow these steps. Outlook/Preferences/Accounts/ and then type your current password again in the Password field. The application will work without problems until you close it. Repeat the procedure after opening/starting the computer again. It's not a complete solution to the problem, but at least it helps and you can work.
I'm using the default client, thanks for the walkthrough anyway.
Rebuild didn't help, so I'll have to remove it and add it again. Thanks for advice.
What can we say about it - Apple himself describes it most succinctly: "OS X 10 Yosemite - Every bit as powerful as it looks"...
I have another interesting bug that I need help with. I had an IMAP account that I canceled. I have downloaded local copies so I have all my mail on disk. Although Mail allows me to view and work with mail in the INBOX, it does not show me the folders that I had created on IMAP. They are locally on the disk, I can get to them via the system search, but it doesn't want to show me in the e-mail :-(
Does anyone know how to insert an image of reasonable quality and size into the signature? Or some link to a relevant discussion. Thanks a lot. Hello, Applejack
Well, I have another problem with IMAP. I have a newly installed iPhone 5S, iPad mini retina and the latest model MacBook Pro Retina 15″ and everything is updated, i.e. a clean installation everywhere, and now to the mail: If I send a new mail or reply to any mail from the MacBook, it takes a moment into the drafts folder 3, 5, 9, 15, or maybe 27 versions of the same message. So after one working day, I have drafts of maybe 415 semi-reports in my inbox... No one is able to advise. No one knows about web hosting, no one knows at Apple, no administrator through IT knows... Really good... This doesn't happen from an iPad or an iPhone. I reinstalled everything again and it didn't help. The settings according to this article did not help. Does anyone suspect betrayal????
It can be seen as mail activity at the bottom left. I always see him writing, “I save 18 out of 18…etc.
Help!!!
