When you turn on a new or reset Mac for the first time, it is necessary that you go through the initial wizard in which you set basic preferences. One of the very first steps is to set the region you are in, together with the language you will use on the device. This language is then automatically set not only for the wizard, but also for the entire environment of the macOS operating system, including applications. In the event that a third-party application is not available in the native Czech language, English or another language available in the application will be set.

How to set a different application language on Mac

From time to time, however, some users may find themselves in a situation where they download an application that is available in the Czech language, but in the end find out that the translation is not quite ideal, or that it is simply easier for them to use English. This most often happens, for example, with professional applications for graphic design, programming, etc., for which most procedures are documented in English. In the Czech language, some option names can be significantly different, which slows down the work. In addition, many users are already used to English, so they can use it in these applications. But the good news is that in macOS you can set it so that only a selected application starts in a language other than the one set for macOS. The procedure is as follows:

  • First, you need to tap on the top left corner of your Mac icon .
  • Once you do so, select an option from the menu System Preferences…
  • This will open a new window with all available sections for managing preferences.
  • In this window, locate and click on the section named Language and area.
  • Then, in the menu at the top of the window, move to the tab with the name Application.
  • Here, in the lower left corner of the window, click the s button + icon.
  • A new window will open where you are in the first menu select an application, for which you want to change the language.
  • In the second menu, after selecting the application set the language you want to use.
  • Finally, don't forget to tap the button Add bottom right.

Using the above procedure, it is therefore possible to set the selected application to run in a different language on the Mac. If you want to set up more applications in this way, you just need to repeatedly click on the button with the + icon and add applications with a language. If you would like to remove an application from the list, click to mark it and press the button with the - icon at the bottom left. In order to change the language after using the above procedure, it is necessary to restart the application, then close it and start it again.
