With the arrival of macOS 11 Big Sur, we saw a major overhaul of the appearance of the entire operating system - you could observe the changes immediately after the first launch. There are, for example, new icons, a redesigned Dock at the bottom of the screen, or a rounded window style. Part of the top bar, or menu bar if you like, is a new control center, which is very similar to the one from iOS or iPadOS. Within the control center, you can quickly and easily control the settings of your Mac - from volume, to brightness, to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Among other things, you will also find Do Not Disturb mode controls here, which most of you probably use often on your Mac. But how can you make this icon always appear directly in the top bar? We will talk about that in this article.

How to set Do Not Disturb to always appear in the top bar on Mac

If you activate Do Not Disturb mode on your Mac, a crescent moon icon will automatically appear in the top bar, indicating the activity of the said mode. However, when Do Not Disturb is off, the crescent moon icon is not displayed here. If you want to show that the icon is always displayed, then proceed as follows:

  • First, you need to tap on in the upper left corner icon .
  • Once you do so, select an option from the menu that appears System Preferences…
  • This will open a new window with all available sections for editing preferences.
  • Within this section, locate and tap the option Dock and menu bar.
  • Now in the left menu in the category Control Center click on Do not disturb.
  • All you have to do here is to activate Show in the menu bar.
  • Finally below unclick menu and select an option always.

There are several ways to enable Do Not Disturb on your Mac. Primarily, you just need to click on the control center, where the Do Not Disturb mode is located. If you tap directly on the month icon, Do Not Disturb will automatically turn on. However, if you click next to it, other options will appear, with which it is possible to activate Do Not Disturb, for example for an hour. Another way to activate Do Not Disturb mode is to hold the Option key, then tap the current time in the upper right corner. Among other things, you can also use Siri, which you just have to say "Hey Siri, turn on Do Not Disturb".
