We often change the volume on our Apple devices several times a day. However, if you change the volume in the classic way, you can literally predict by eye how loud or soft the sound will be in the finale - that is, if you are not playing some media. The good news, however, is that for these cases there is a special function within macOS that allows you to play a kind of response that will play the sound at the volume you just set. This way, you will be able to quickly adjust the volume before starting playback. How to activate this feature?

How to set audio to play when adjusting volume on Mac

If you want to activate a function on your macOS device that, when you change the volume, will play the sound at the volume you just set, proceed as follows:

  • First, you need to tap on in the upper left corner icon .
  • Once you do so, select an option from the menu that appears System Preferences…
  • This will open a new window in which you can find all the options for changing preferences.
  • Within this window, locate and click on the section named Sound
  • Now switch to the tab in the top menu Sound effects.
  • Here you just need to go down ticked possibility Play response when volume changes.

If you did everything correctly, now whenever you change the volume, a short tone will be played at the volume you set. This function is useful if you want to adjust the volume before playing some media. If you change the volume classically without a response, you cannot determine exactly how loud the sound will be and you can more or less only estimate the level.

You can also get an audio response when you change the volume on a Mac by holding Shift while pressing the volume buttons.
