Nowadays, we share different content practically all the time. It can be, for example, photos, videos, links, podcasts or anything else. To share this content, we use communication applications - for example, it can be Messenger, WhatsApp or native Messages and the iMessage service. If you use Messages, you probably know that you can easily view all shared content. Just tap the ⓘ icon in the upper right corner of the conversation, then scroll down to where the content is.

How to disable Shared with you on Mac

However, with the arrival of macOS Monterey, Apple introduced the Shared with You feature, which can display shared content in some native apps. In Safari, it can display links that your contacts have shared with you in Messages, in Photos, it is images, and in the Podcasts application, shared podcasts. This is a pretty useful feature that gives you quick access to content shared with you. But it goes without saying that Apple can't please everyone, so some of you might be wondering how to completely disable the Shared with you section in native apps. Fortunately, it's not that complicated and you just need to proceed as follows:

  • First, you need to go to the native app on your Mac News.
  • Once you've done that, click on the tab on the left side of the top bar News.
  • This will bring up a menu in which you can click on the box with the name Preferences…
  • A new window will then open, where in its top menu click on Shared with you.
  • Here, you just need to click on the button in the upper right part Turn off…

Thus, using the above procedure, it is possible to completely disable the display of the Shared with you section within native applications on Mac. If you would like to deactivate Shared with you only for a specific contact, you can of course. Just go to Messages in Messages specific conversations, and then at the top right, tap icon ⓘ. A small window will appear for you to get off below a tick off named option View in Shared with you section. After that, Shared with you will be disabled for that specific contact.
