If you follow the events in the world of Apple, you certainly did not miss the introduction of the new MacBook Pros, specifically the 14″ and 16″ models, a few months ago. These brand new machines boast a redesigned design, professional M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, a perfect display and other advantages. As for the display, Apple used mini-LED technology for backlighting, but also came with the ProMotion function. If you are not familiar with this feature, it provides an adaptive change in the refresh rate of the screen, up to a value of 120 Hz. This means that the display can automatically adapt to the displayed content and change its refresh rate.

How to Disable ProMotion on Mac

In most cases, ProMotion is useful and works smoothly. But the truth is that it does not necessarily suit all users - for example, editors and cameramen, or other users. The good news is that, unlike the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) and iPad Pro, it's easy to disable ProMotion on the new MacBook Pros and set the screen to a fixed refresh rate. If you would also like to disable ProMotion and choose a fixed refresh rate, proceed as follows:

  • First, you need to tap on the Mac in the upper left corner of the screen icon .
  • Then select an option from the menu that appears System Preferences…
  • This will open a new window where you will find all the sections for managing preferences.
  • In this window, find and click on the section named Monitors.
  • Once you've done so, you'll be taken to the interface for managing your monitors.
  • Here it is necessary that you tap on in the lower right corner of the window Setting up monitors…
  • In case you have multiple monitors connected, so now choose on the left MacBook Pro, built-in Liquid Retina XDR display.
  • Then it's enough for you to be next Refresh rate they opened menu a you have chosen the frequency you need.

Through the above procedure, it is therefore possible to deactivate ProMotion and set a fixed refresh rate on your 14″ or 16″ MacBook Pro (2021). Specifically, there are several fixed refresh rate options available, namely 60 Hz, 59.94 Hz, 50 Hz, 48 Hz or 47.95 Hz. So if you are a professional filmmaker, or if you need to set a fixed refresh rate for any other reason, now you know how to do it. It is clear that in the future we will see more Apple computers with ProMotion, for which the deactivation procedure will be the same as above.
