A few weeks ago I ran into a little trouble with my older MacBook. So I was lying on vacation by the sea and I was using my MacBook. But then a strong wind started blowing and a handful of sand was blown directly onto my open MacBook. What is going to happen now, I thought. So I turned the Mac upside down and tried to shake every single grain of sand out of it. Unfortunately, the sand also got into my trackpad and that's when my nightmare started. The trackpad stopped clicking. That is, he clicked on his own, as he wanted, and it was not pleasant. So I had to step in and see how to disable the trackpad. It was quite difficult with a semi-functional trackpad, but I managed it in the end. This even gave me the idea for this article, as you might find this trick useful at some point.

How to Disable Trackpad on MacBook

  • V upper left corner of the screen we click on apple logo icon
  • A menu will open in which we click System Preferences…
  • From the window in the lower right part we choose the option Disclosure
  • Here's the help left menu we move to the settings Mouse and trackpad
  • Here we check Ignore the built-in trackpad if a mouse or wireless trackpad is connected

So if you find yourself in the same or similar situation that I described in the introduction, you already know how to disable the trackpad. This feature is also handy when you don't want your functional trackpad to respond to touch when you have a mouse attached.
