V the first part series How on iTunes we talked a little about the philosophy of how iTunes works with iOS devices, and we dealt with the synchronization and transfer of music files to the device. Now we will show you how to use iTunes to get the selected images and photos to your iPhone or iPad. The screenshots in the article are from the OS X operating system, but everything works on Windows anyway...

To begin with, we will operate on the premise that you do not store and manage photos and images in any application intended for this purpose, but only have them in folders on the disk.

Content preparation
The first step will be to create a folder, which we will call again iPhone (or however you want). Create it anywhere on your disk, then we will just add photos and images to it that we want to have on iOS devices.

The second step is to add photos to the folder. Select the photos on your computer and copy/paste them into the created folder. If you want to have photos sorted into albums, insert entire photo folders named as you want them to be named in iOS as well.

The entire folder will be synchronized iPhone including the contents inside, in my case there will be folders in the iPhone iPhone (containing the four photos pictured below) a All kinds of things.

iTunes and device settings

Now we turn on iTunes and connect the iOS device. Wait for it to load, open the device with the button in the upper right corner next to the iTunes Store and switch to the Photos tab.

We check the option Sync photos from source and we click on the button after the word source. A window will pop up where we can find our folder iPhone and here we choose. Then we check the option All folders and it's up to you whether you want videos too or not. We click on Use and the device is syncing - you now have another folder(s) with your selected content on your device in the Pictures app.

iPhoto, Aperture, Zoner and other photo libraries

If you use, for example, iPhoto or Aperture to manage photos in OS X, or Zoner Photo Studio on Windows, then transferring photos to an iOS device is even easier. You will skip all the steps mentioned above with creating new folders, because you already have your photos organized in the mentioned applications.

In iTunes only in the menu Sync photos from source you select the desired application (iPhoto, etc.) and subsequently choose whether you want to have all photos on your iOS device, or only selected albums and others, which you check in the clear lists. Similar to iTunes for music content, you can create your own folders in iPhoto, for example, exclusively for synchronization with iPhone or iPad.

Conclusion, summary, and what next?

In the first step, we created a folder where we saved the photos and images we want on the device. After connecting the iPhone, we set it up and taught it to sync our new folder.

Every time you connect, the content will be synchronized with the device, so if you want to add a photo to the device, simply add it to this folder - after connecting the iPhone or iPad (and then synchronizing), it will be transferred. If you want to delete it from your device, delete it from the folder. Done, from now on you are only working with this folder.

If you use applications such as iPhoto or Zoner Photo Studio to manage your photos, you just need to select the already created albums and folders in these applications in iTunes.
