The iTunes Store is one of the biggest multimedia stores ever, whether we're talking about movies, music, books or apps. The vast majority of both iOS and OS X users use it to get content of all kinds, so we'll take a look at setting it up to automatically download new content and then delete it…
Automatic downloads and updates
First, in an iOS device, we will look into Settings per item iTunes and the App Store. If you're not, of course, sign in here with your Apple ID. There are several setting options and it's up to your preference which options you choose:
- Show all: About this feature below.
- Automatic downloads: When you buy something in iTunes on your computer, that content is automatically downloaded to your iOS device as well. You can choose what content should be automatically downloaded this way - music, apps, books. You don't always want all the content you download on your computer to be on your iPhone or iPad.
Item updates (new in iOS 7) for automatic downloads, it does not affect the purchases of the applications themselves, but only their updates. If you have this feature activated, apps downloaded on your iOS device will update themselves. This means that you will rarely see a red icon with the number of updates on the App Store icon, but the Notification Center will always notify you of updated applications.
Item Use mobile data is clear - everything mentioned above will be done not only on Wi-Fi, but also on your operator's mobile networks (not recommended in case of low FUP limit).
Delete/hide downloaded content
Let's go back to the option Show all. Some of you must have encountered the problem that you bought a song, but you no longer want it on your device and you can't remove it.
If you have a purchased song on your device that you want to delete, simply swipe over it from the right side to the left, an option will appear Delete, select here and the track will be removed from the device.
However, if you have the option enabled in the settings Show all, the song downloaded from iTunes will be removed physically (it will not take up memory space), but it will remain in the list with a cloud icon on the right side that prompts you to download it again. If you turn off the option in settings Show all, the song will be deleted "completely", that is, it will not be visible in the playlist, but you can download it again from iTunes at any time without having to pay for it again. The principle here is the same as with applications, where if you pay once, you can download the application again for free at any time in the future, whatever its current price may be.
záver
We have shown what the individual settings are for in the iOS device under the item iTunes and the App Store, we set up automatic content downloads to iOS devices, or automatic app updates, and showed how to delete unnecessary purchased items and not display them in the list.
It's a bit off-topic, I admit, but... Is there a way to make it so that I can see all purchased movies in the video section in iTunes on my computer, and not just those that I have physically downloaded from the AppStore to the disc? That's how it is on the iPad, and the movie that I have bought but not downloaded has a cloud saying that they are in movie heaven (iCloud). On my computer, I have to go to Account -> Purchased -> Films, and that doesn't work for me. Maybe I just overlooked some switch or trick somewhere.
I can see the movies with the cloud in the upper right corner automatically, try checking "Show iTunes purchases in iCloud" in the preferences ( CMD + ,) on the Store tab.
That's exactly what I didn't find. Thank you so much!
But how can I delete purchased movies please?? I have them in the video app.
