Along with the arrival of the iOS 17 operating system, Apple also introduced other features to protect not only minor iPhone owners. The Screen Time feature in iOS 17 now includes the ability to automatically blur photos that the iPhone evaluates as potentially inappropriate.

This feature not only protects children, but is also a welcome improvement for those who often receive inappropriate content in their messages. The mentioned blurring of images is not permanent - after receiving a potentially inappropriate photo or video, the system will inform you of this fact in an understandable way, and if you still want to view the photo, you will have to confirm your decision several times.

If you want to enable sensitive content warnings on an iPhone running iOS 17 and later, follow the instructions below.

  • On iPhone, run Settings.
  • Click on Screen time.
  • In the section Communication click on Secure communication.
  • Activate items Secure communication a Improving secure communication.

When the feature is turned on, iOS can use in-device machine learning to recognize sensitive photos and videos before displaying them. The Messages application automatically blurs them and requires users to make a conscious decision to display the material. All data processing for the detection function takes place locally on the user's device. Apple won't know who sent you sensitive content or specifics about the content, only that the algorithms on the device detected content that may be related to nudity.
