Virtually all Apple operating systems include a native Notes application in which, as the name suggests, you can write any notes you want. This application is very popular among Apple users, as it offers both absolutely basic functions and advanced ones, which eliminates the need to use a third-party note-taking application. In addition, Apple is constantly trying to improve Notes, which we also witnessed in the new operating system iOS 16. One of the novelties concerns the change in the current way of locking selected notes.

How to change how you lock notes on iPhone

If you wanted to lock a note in Notes, so far it was necessary to set a special password just for this application, of course with the option of using Touch ID or Face ID for authorization. However, this solution was not ideal at all, as most users forgot this password especially for Notes after some time. There was no recovery option, so it was necessary to reset the password and delete the original locked notes. However, this is finally changing in iOS 16, where you can set your notes to lock with a passcode to your iPhone, without having to create a special password. If you would like to change the way notes are locked, just follow these steps:

  • First, you need to open the app on your iPhone Settings.
  • Once you do, slide down a piece below, where to find and click Comment.
  • Here again below locate and open the section Password.
  • Then on the next screen subsequently select an account, for which you want to change the locking method.
  • In the end, it's enough select the locking method by marking.

It is therefore possible to change the way notes are locked in the above way. You can choose either Apply the code to the device, which will lock the notes with the iPhone passcode, or you can select Use your own password, which is the original method of locking with a special password. You can of course continue to (de)activate the option below authorization using Touch ID or Face ID. It's important to mention that when you lock a note for the first time in iOS 16, you'll see a wizard asking which of the mentioned methods you want to use. So if you chose the wrong option or changed your mind, now you know how you can change the locking method.
