How to change the default music application on iPhone should be of interest to all users who have updated their iPhone to iOS 14.5. With the arrival of iOS 14, we finally got the option to reset some of the default applications – namely the email client and the web browser. This means that after any interaction with e-mail or web browser, the native application will not automatically open for us, but the one you choose. With the arrival of iOS 14.5, we saw the expansion of this function for changing the default applications - we can now choose our own music application. However, the reset procedure is different in this case compared to the classic one.

How to Change Default Music App on iPhone

The default application for email and web browser can be changed directly in Settings. In the case of a music application, however, the situation is different – the entire process must be carried out via Siri. In addition to this, the truth is that you cannot change the default music application with a single tap. Instead, Siri learns and listens to you as you use it. For example, if you say a sentence several times in a row "Hey Siri, play music on Spotify", then Siri will remember this choice and in the following cases it will be after speaking "Hey Siri, play music" automatically music played from Spotify and not from Apple Music. At the first attempts to play music, however, Siri may stop you and simply ask you in which application you want to start the music - a list of all music applications will appear on the display and you will choose the one you prefer. So, if you want to set the default music application, you can try the following procedure first:

  • Tell Siri to started playing any music, for example "Hey Siri, play The Beatles".
  • If you said this sentence for the first time in iOS 14.5, it should appear on your display list of available music applications.
  • From this list you select your preferred application a tap on it.

Playback will then start from the selected music application. If you say the same or a similar request again in the future, Siri should no longer ask you which application you want to use to play music - but there may be exceptions from time to time. We don't change music apps very often, but if you were to switch from Spotify to Apple Music, for example, it would be necessary for you to tell Siri the command with the addition on Apple Music, that is, for example "Hey Siri, play The Beatles on Apple Music". If you make this request several times in a row, Siri will remember your choice again after a while. After that, all you have to do is say the request "Hey Siri, play The Beatles" with playback starting on Apple Music.
