You can use AirDrop on Apple devices to send any content and data. It's an absolutely perfect feature that uses a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for transmission, so it's fast and stable. In addition, the whole process of sharing anything is extremely simple, and once you use AirDrop, you will find that you simply cannot function without it. Like other features, AirDrop has certain preferences, specifically in terms of visibility to other users. You can set the reception to be turned off completely, or to be visible to your contacts, or to everyone within range.

How to Change AirDrop Visibility Settings on iPhone

For several years, the three mentioned options for changing the visibility of AirDrop have been unchanged. Some time ago, however, Apple came up with a change, initially only in China, where there was a change in visibility for everyone - specifically, the time during which the iPhone remained visible without restrictions was limited to 10 minutes. Once this time has passed, visibility will automatically revert to contacts only. Subsequently, Apple decided that this was a perfect solution from the point of view of privacy, so in iOS 16.2 it released this news to the whole world. For users, this means that if they want to receive data via AirDrop from someone they don't have in their contacts, they will always have to activate it manually. The fastest way is as follows:

  • First it is necessary that on your iPhone they opened the control center.
    • iPhone with Touch ID: swipe up from the bottom edge of the display;
    • iPhone with Face ID: swipe down from the top right edge of the display.
  • Then hold your finger on the top left tile (airplane mode, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth data).
  • Once you do so, you will see the advanced options where at the bottom left tap on airdrop.
  • Finally, all you have to do is select an option For everyone for 10 minutes.

So, in the above way, your iPhone can be set AirDrop visibility to everyone within range for 10 minutes. After this time, the visibility settings will change again only for contacts. You can also change the visibility of AirDrop in the classic way through the application Settings, where just go to General → AirDrop, where you can find all three options. Unfortunately, you can no longer set AirDrop to be visible to all other devices indefinitely, as it was until recently, which is definitely a shame. Apple could have kept this option, for example with a notification, but unfortunately this did not happen.
