V latest version of the watchOS 3.2 operating system, Apple introduced a new cinema mode, the so-called Theater Mode, which is on the watch so that it does not light up on its own when you are in the cinema or theatre, for example. When you have this mode activated, the display will not light up either when you move your wrist or when you receive a notification. You only have to turn on the display by tapping or pressing the digital crown.

At the same time, however, Apple allows one more option in watchOS for waking up the Watch and turning on the display - by turning the digital crown. In addition, this can be used even without the cinema mode turned on. In the Watch app on iPhone in the section General > Wake Screen you turn on the function By turning the crown up, and then whenever the display is off, just turn the crown and the display will slowly light up.

The brightness adjusts to the speed of your rotation, so you can quickly reach full brightness in the shutter. Of course, you can turn it backwards in the same way and turn the display off again.

It is important to mention that waking up the screen in this way only works with the Apple Watch Series 2. The likely reason is that the technology is tied to the capabilities of the new OLED display, which has twice the brightness of the first or zero generation Apple Watch.

The function of waking the screen by turning the crown works on all watch faces. It works very well in combination with a minimalist dial that only displays the digital time. This way you can discreetly see what time it is, and not only in the cinema, theater or on other occasions. However, the rule is that once you reach full brightness, you must let the watch turn off in the normal way, i.e. either wait or cover the display with your palm. On the other hand, if you light up the display only gently, it will turn off by itself within three seconds.

I personally use this feature quite often. I think that this also saves the battery, although the second generation does not have a problem with the juice lasting all day. Very discreetly, I can check the current time or other information currently displayed on the watch face at any time.
