If you own an Apple Watch, which by the way is one of the most popular smart watches in the world, then you must have already noticed various details. On the main screen, you might have been interested in, for example, the red dot that indicates pending notifications, as well as the Dock, which certainly does not resemble the classic Dock from macOS, but offers other functions. You may have also noticed that if you open an app and then lock your Apple Watch, when you unlock it again, you end up on the home screen instead of the app. This setting can also be changed, and we will show you how to do it in this tutorial.

How to set your Apple Watch to show the last app you ran after unlocking

If you want to change the display settings for the last app you opened after unlocking your Apple Watch, you can do so on both the watch and the iPhone:

On Apple Watch:

  • On the home screen, press digital crown.
  • Go to the native app Settings.
  • Click the section In general and move a bit below.
  • Click on the box wake up screen where to get off below.
  • Locate the preferences category Show last app when you raise your wrist (this feature applies to any unlock, not just raising the wrist).
  • Choose from four available options.

On iPhone:

  • Move to the app Watch.
  • In the bottom menu, make sure you are in the section My watch.
  • Here then go to the section In general.
  • Now click on the box wake up screen where you get off completely down.
  • Locate the category Show last app when unlocked.
  • Choose from four available options.

In both cases, you will have a choice of four options, namely Session only, Within 2 minutes of use, Within 1 hour of use a Always. If you choose the first option, only applications that use sessions will appear after unlocking (Exercise, Maps, Controller, Minute Minder and others), in the second and third cases, the application will only open if you unlock the Apple Watch within the selected time, and in the case of the last option, the running application always opens automatically.
