Over two million apps in the App Store is indeed a lot, but it's still not enough for some iPhone users. After all, this is also because unofficial titles expand the capabilities of the device. However, unlike Android, iOS does not (yet) support installing third-party apps from any source other than the official store. Although there is one way, unofficial and risky, but as old as the first iPhone. We are talking about jailbreak, of course.

But this designation is certainly appropriate. Apple keeps its users in its "prison" and this "escape" will allow them to break out of it. After jailbreaking, unofficial apps (not released in the App Store) can be installed on the iPhone that have access to the file system. Installing unofficial apps is probably the most common reason to jailbreak, but many also do it to modify system files, where they can delete, rename, etc. Jailbreak is a complex process, but for dedicated users it can mean getting more out of their iPhone or iPad Touch something more.

It is not without risk

Jailbreak your iPhone means you "free" it from restrictions set by Apple. There was a time when a jailbreak was almost necessary to do any iPhone customization or even run apps in the background. However, with the development of iOS and the addition of many features that were previously only available to the jailbreaker community, this step became less and less popular and, after all, necessary. Any ordinary user can do without it.

But it's worth mentioning that when you unlock an iPhone, you're doing something that Apple doesn't officially recognize, so there's definitely a chance that something will go wrong during the process and you'll end up with a broken device. Apple will not help you in this case, you do everything at your own risk. However, if unlocking your iPhone brings you certain benefits, apart from the risk involved, there are also disadvantages.

The main thing is that after jailbreaking an iPhone, you will not be able to update it to a new version of iOS using the company's built-in tools. This means you can't get new features or important security updates. At least not right away. It takes some time for the community to crack the current version and make it available for installation. And then there is the risk of device security breaches, possible service issues, possibly reduced battery life, etc.

Older models have it easier

Most of the methods used by jailbreaking tools on modern iPhones actually exploit security flaws in iOS or the underlying hardware to get into your device in the first place. This means that every time Apple releases a new version of iOS, it often closes this door, requiring the jailbreaking community to find another way to bypass the security and get into the iPhone in a different way to install this custom system tweak.

Checkra1n-jailbreak

If you have an iPhone X or an older model, you can take advantage of a hardware flaw that existed in the chips used in those older models to jailbreak any version of iOS, or even downgrade to an older version in the process. This also applies to all iPod Touch models, as the 7th generation, released in 2019, still uses the older A10 processor, the same one found in the iPhone 7.

The best jailbreak method for older iPhones is the checkra1n tool. The latter exploits a hardware vulnerability that can be exploited in any iOS device with an A5 to A11 processor, which includes iPhone 4S to iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, so basically any iPhone released between 2011 and 2017. Because checkra1n relies on to hardware exploit, it works with almost any version of iOS, even the latest versions of iOS 14, and it is impossible for Apple to fix this bug. Although the exploit is possible up to the iPhone 4S, the checkra1n tool only supports iPhone 5s or later models.

Jailbreak iOS 15 and iPhone 13

The new iPhones 13 and the iOS 15 system were only cracked at the end of January 2022, so this is still a fairly recent novelty that does not yet count on decimal updates. The Chinese instrument TiJong Xūnǐ did it. Then there is Unc0ver and also Jailscrpting. It means that the community is still active and still trying to crack even the latest systems and devices.

We intentionally do not provide any links to the tools mentioned here and we certainly do not encourage you to jailbreak your devices. If you do so, you do so of your own volition and at your own risk. This article is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to be a guide. Keep in mind the possible risks you are exposed to in such a case.
